As part of Operation Steadfast Promise, FBI Omaha, Bureau of Indian Affairs, DEAOmaha, and Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Services apprehended a violent fugitive in Macy, Nebraska, on a federal arrest warrant early Friday morning. Operation Steadfast Promise is a comprehensive surge of resources to address a wide range of violent crime threats including gangs and criminal enterprises, violent crimes against children, and fugitive apprehension cases in Tribal communities. FBI Omaha will continue working with our local, county, state, Tribal, and federal law enforcement partners to address the violent crime impacting Indian Country and improve public safety.

FBI Omaha hosted a press conference yesterday with our law enforcement partners announcing the arrest of five individuals involved in an alleged conspiracy to engage in labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and other criminal activity at several hotel locations and “brow and lash” salons across Nebraska. Eugune Kowel, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Omaha, stated, “Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. This investigation revealed victims right here in the heart of the heartland forced into sexual activity, living and working in dangerous and filthy conditions, and extorted to work in grueling jobs with little to no pay. We will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners to aggressively identify and apprehend perpetrators of human trafficking, hold them accountable, and obtain justice for victims. Our approach to these horrific cases is always centered on the victims. We encourage anyone who may be a victim or have information about human trafficking to call us. We will continue to surge resources to arrest violent offenders in our community as part of the FBI’s Summer Heat Initiative.” Human trafficking cannot be combatted by one agency alone. FBI Omaha is grateful for the work of our partners on this large-scale investigation that included dedicated personnel from the Department of Homeland Security, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, the Omaha Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Branch, the United States Marshals Service, and the Nebraska State Attorney General’s Office. Yesterday FBI Omaha partnered with the U.S. Marshal Service, the Omaha Police Department, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to arrest 28 major violent offenders, drug traffickers, and other fugitives in the Omaha metro region as part of the FBI’s Summer Heat initiative, a nationwide effort to take dangerous criminals off the street.

Early this morning FBI Omaha and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, with the support of several other agencies, conducted an operation serving federal and state warrants on 15 sex offenders across the Omaha metro region as part of the FBI’s Summer Heat initiative. Summer Heat is the FBI's nationwide initiative surging resources to address violent crime in our communities.
