The Secretary of State for the Environment has spent a lot of time the last few days claiming that he has secured £104 billion private investment from the water industry. Which is really odd as yesterday the MP for Keighley and Ilkley told parliament that £93 billion of that money had already been signed for and agreed between the water industry and Ofwat 9 MONTHS before the election and therefore it could not in anyway whatsoever have anything to do with him. The reason the MP Keighley and Ilkley was so confident in his assertion, he is of course the former minister for water and had even brought the correspondence with him to prove his point. OPPS!!!

Oh deary me, they just can't bloody well help themselves can they. Southern Water's under siege CEO has taken to gaslighting parliament. Now trying to make us all believe that the policy and regulatory change needed by water companies to allow them to fix all of this was brought about by campaigners and he thinks we're all terribly fabulous people and now wants to work with us... Try it this way. The law was clear in 1991. It was updated in 1994. The court told you so in 2012 and yet again in 2021. Here's a hint. We don't need or want your false, insincere flattery, try doing your bloody job, comply with the law and we need never speak each others names ever again. Or perhaps you should have just done that in the first place, 35 years ago.

On the 8th Sep 2022 then SoS for environment Sir Ranil Jayawardena told MPs he had ordered WCs to produce a sewage plan and to do so within 14 days. Clearly someone at UK Prime Minister has forgotten as exactly 165 days later gov has ordered WCs to... produce a sewage plan. UTTER SHAMBLES!

Are you being lied to? Ministers claim that "This government’s generational reform of the water system, that will cut water pollution and clean up our rivers lakes and seas for good". Yet just 2 weeks ago Defra's leading civil servant told MPs "That is a simplification process. We are looking to bring the two main underlying bits of environmental law the water framework directive and the waste water directive together in a consolidated form. Again, that is an opportunity to simplify and streamline." The Water Framework Directive set a target that by 2027 every river in England would be in "Good" ecological condition. Govt is going to miss that one by a country mile, in reality it's looking like a jaw droppingly pathetic 6% of rivers will achieve that goal. The Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive is what makes it illegal to dumping sewage outside of "exceptional situations." Both are about to be "streamlined", you have been warned.

NEWSFLASH: Justice for the River Evenlode. Evenlode Catchment Partnership gives back £135,957 of Thames Water's filthy blood money. Amazing bravo, bravo 👏👏👏 It's a sleazy old tactic employed by water companies for decades, donate money to local charities and community groups to shut them up. It's bribery, it's hush money, it's blood money, it's used to quell local anger about the state of rivers and to deflect attention and away from dealing with what's really killing our rivers, over abstraction and pollution. The Evenlode Catchment Partnership has had enough. They're not going to be used anymore as a means to achieving Thames Water's aims, not actually trying to save the river so they've given back £135,957.04 of Thames Water's filthy lucre. 💩💩💩 So who's next? Who's the next river charity, community group that's going to refuse to be complicit in destroying our rivers? Who's next to refuse the water industry's blood money? Who's next to step up and really fight for our rivers not just be bought of? Are you up to it?
