Here’s Hortense Spillers describing how black men in the academy (like Henry Louis “Skip” Gates) used their institutional power to marginalize the study of black GENDER & feminism in early Black Studies. The NEW explicit focus on “gender” among black men is based on anti-black-feminist grievance, envy, post-Crenshaw false analogies, and no HONESTY about why black men were so LATE to the gender discourse beyond fortifying black manhood/masculinity.
