“Black men face gendered oppression” Black men never cared about “gender” beyond preserving tacit & explicit conceptual androcentrism (the centering of men) in black thought. Here’s Hortense Spillers describing how black men in the academy (like Henry Louis “Skip” Gates) used their institutional power to marginalize the study of black GENDER & feminism in early Black Studies. The NEW explicit focus on “gender” among black men is based on anti-black-feminist grievance, envy, post-Crenshaw false analogies, and no HONESTY about why black men were so LATE to the gender discourse beyond fortifying black manhood/masculinity.
