I was not triggered by the content of the video so much as by the sheer theatrical idleness it revealed. Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga found it necessary to board aircraft from Nairobi to Kisumu in order to “supervise” the removal of water hyacinth from Lake Victoria - a task that required, at most, three competent workers, one piece of heavy machinery and a disposal truck. The logistics bill alone could have purchased the machinery and paid the labour to clear the infestation for good. One is left wondering how empty a head of state’s calendar must be when the most pressing national duty becomes standing for photographs beside invasive weeds. This will remain the daily routine of Kenyan life for as long as voters continue elevating candidates whose only qualification is appearing on mainstream (githeri) media. The figures platformed by those channels are the modern colonial homeguards - selected, polished, and cleared by the intelligence apparatus to manage the looting of national resources on behalf of foreign cartels while performing the rituals of leadership. This week Rigathi Gachietha made a clumsy attempt to drag the late Raila Odinga’s name into current political theatre. The effort collapsed on contact with reality. Raila had already vacated the public imagination long before his death, the moment he and Edwin Sifuna formalised their MoU with UDA. Sentiment does not survive that level of transactional clarity. Meanwhile the same son of an elephant poacher who once inspected water hyacinth now postures as the busy architect of opposition unity, busily arranging the corrupt United Opposition of geriatric fossils and the Linda Mwananchi bandwagon of professional scammers. The hype is synthetic and the wave is already breaking. A man sitting on a stolen fortune would be better advised to enjoy it in private rather than continue the embarrassing fiction that he still commands meaningful political weight.

The land is clearly capable and productive. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: you have to be extremely careful when posting such videos. Western diplomats, globalist NGOs, foreign importers, supermarket chains, and corrupt local bureaucrats are always watching. The moment they see genuine agricultural potential, they spring into action. Expect a new bill soon - full of artificial barriers, taxes, input restrictions, and bureaucratic red tape - designed to make local orange farming unviable so Kenya can be reduced to importing those brightly coloured, overpriced GMO oranges currently flooding our supermarkets. If you want to preserve your peace and your land, the sad reality is this: preserve the narrative that Ukambani is a hunger-stricken desert. Show poverty. Show malnourished children. That is the only language the system understands and respects. Kenya was once the world’s top producer of pyrethrum, not just Africa’s. In 1990, we exported 130,000 metric tonnes of coffee. Today, that figure has collapsed to barely 15,000 tonnes. Prime agricultural land in Mount Kenya has been deliberately converted into golf courses like Thika Greens and Migaa, or turned into real estate scams like Edenville on Kiambu Road and Tilisi in Limuru. Cotton and sugar farming in Western Kenya were systematically destroyed through legislative and bureaucratic sabotage so we could become net importers of second-hand clothes (mitumba) and sugar. This is not mismanagement. It is engineered de-industrialisation and agricultural collapse. The Kamba community, like many others, faces a cruel dilemma. To protect their fertile land from the vultures of capitalism - foreign interests and local enablers - they should maintain the optics of poverty and desperation. Show success, and the predators descend. Show hunger like malnourished Stivvo Simple Boy-looking children, and perhaps the land remains yours a little longer. This is the tragic state of Kenya: a country punished for daring to be productive. The system would rather import everything and keep us dependent than allow genuine local prosperity that threatens their control and profit margins. The video from Ukambani is beautiful, but dangerous. In a sane country, it would be cause for celebration and investment. In Kenya, it is a warning siren.

Everyone now knows exactly which bloggers circulate those clips and what the intended purpose is - to manufacture fear and demobilize mass action. When you lose your fear, they lose their power. Those police intimidation tactics are rapidly losing their potency. The people have seen the script too many times. It is time for everyone to battle in the arena of ideas instead of falling for sterile scaremongering. The killer goons are not brave enforcers of the law. They are frightened men hiding behind guns, darkness, and unmarked cars because they know the day of reckoning is coming. Their power rests entirely on the fear they project. Strip that away, and all that remains is a bunch of cowards in reversed Subarus, Tiguains and Prados running from the very public they terrorize. The fear factory is crumbling. The unusually aggressive amplification from government-aligned bloggers and mainstream (githeri) media around today’s strike is itself the warning sign. The playbook appears designed to manufacture momentum, inflate expectations, and eventually engineer disappointment and demobilization. Most matatu operators survive on daily cash flow/hand-to-mouth and cannot realistically endure a sustained shutdown for long periods.

Rigathi Gachagua has made the sensational claim that only Somalis have assisted him since he left office. A closer look shows the claim does not hold. First, he conveniently ignores that Mama Ngina Kenyatta and S.K. Macharia have given him free and unrestricted access to Kameme and Inooro FM/TV to push his tribal agenda. The airtime these two have provided far outweighs whatever money he is receiving from Somali businessmen. Those businessmen are not acting out of charity or philanthropy. They are shrewd capitalists who expect returns if he ever regains power. Second, when Gachagua was in office he pursued policies that damaged Kikuyu economic interests in the same spirit he once operated as a colonial-era District Officer under Moi. His fraudulent coffee “reforms” shut down the Nairobi Coffee Auction for nearly a year. That stalemate alone led to the layoff of more than 100 workers at the Sasini Coffee Mill. He also damaged the Iranian tea market by conspiring with a local broker to export inferior tea from neighbouring countries under the Kenyan brand, resulting in a ban on Kenyan tea in that market. Even while he was still Deputy President, Kenyan tea was banned from Sudan because of William Ruto’s support for the RSF. Throughout his time as Deputy President, there is not a single Kikuyu he can point to whom he helped secure a government job or appointment. He travelled the country invoking the community’s name and left with nothing concrete to show for it. Kikuyus generally prefer to tithe their money to pastors rather than fund their own political liberation and economic emancipation. Very few have the vision and foresight to stand in solidarity with political movements or personalities. In Gachagua’s case, however, the rejection he now faces is largely self-inflicted - the direct result of his own record while in office.
