Shuttered rest stops in Illinois. It’s emblematic of the way our politicians treat us. On my way down to Effingham and Mattoon on I-57, two of the four rest stops were closed. On the way back north, three of the four were closed. The last one, Prairie View, has been closed for years. We pay the nation’s highest property taxes. The nation’s 2nd-highest gas taxes.
