Another example of the amazing work done by the SFX team. This is the moment when the avalanche hits the plane. The snow was made of dust. The “luggage” thrown at the actors was made of light rubber. Their safety was always of paramount importance. Also, let’s not forget the work done by the VFX team which added the additional “avalanche” effects seen outside through the windows. #SocietyOfTheSnow #LaSociedadDeLaNieve

It took 140 days to shoot Society of the Snow. It’s easier said than done. But, as you can see on this video —a behind the scenes look at those long days through the lens of still photographer Quim Vives’ camera and Michael Giacchino’s music—, the experience of making the movie was a testimonial to the enthusiasm and dedication of a wonderful and resilient team. From the first to the last one. And there were more than 800 of us. We met once more with some of the survivors of the Andes tragedy and the family members of the deceased in the mountain right after they saw Society of the Snow. I’d dare to say the meeting took place thanks to the movie. This moving video —what transpires from this encounter— has an immeasurable value for us. To be a firsthand witness to how they hugged and to feel —almost touch— the love they shared among them was the best possible reward I got from shooting this story. In some cases, this was a reconciliation 51 years in the making. The fact that a movie has been able to bring a tiny bit of peace, maybe even has helped to bring down a wall of silence or even has been of assistance in mitigating some of the enduring pain from all these years, made it quite clear how necessary and important was to make it and how relevant it is the task we are dedicated to. Stories are important. Using fiction to be able to get into other people’s skin is such a powerful tool to feel empathy, to understand we are all in this together. We are all one. I would like to thank all the survivors for telling the stories of those who lived. And I would also like to thank those who didn’t come back for allowing them to do so. #SocietyOfTheSnow #LaSociedadDeLaNieve

Enzo Vogrincic recién aterrizado en el Valle de las Lágrimas, en el mismo lugar donde se estrelló el Fairchild 571 en 1972. No se lo puede creer. Llegábamos allá en septiembre de 2022, después de que Enzo hubiese rodado casi toda la película. Aún faltaba por rodar la secuencia del accidente. #LaSociedadDeLaNieve #SocietyoftheSnow

Nando Parrado, superviviente de Los Andes, es una de las personas más generosas que conozco, prudente y reposada. Pero además es un guía, una luz que nos iluminó durante toda la travesía que supuso filmar “La sociedad de la nieve”. Su ayuda, como la de tanta gente en este proyecto -el resto de supervivientes, familiares y amigos de los que se fueron-, ha sido fundamental para el éxito de la película. Gracias infinitas, Nando. The location where Society of the Snow takes place is fascinating for its beauty and also for the terror that triggers in the audience. It is one of the highlights of the film. Since it’s a place where it’s impossible to shoot with a conventional crew, the visualization of the iconic Valle de las Lágrimas has been created with the indispensable support of the visual effects team. Without them —as you can see on the video below— it would have been impossible to achieve the level of authenticity and realism required for the movie. La localización donde transcurre La Sociedad de la Nieve fascina por su belleza y el terror que inspira en el espectador. Es uno de los principales atractivos de la película. Dado que es un lugar donde es imposible rodar con un crew convencional, la recreación del icónico Valle de las lágrimas se ha generado con el apoyo fundamental del equipo de efectos visuales. Sin ellos, cómo puedes comprobar en este vídeo, habría sido imposible alcanzar el nivel de autenticidad y realismo con el que está planteada la película. #SocietyOfTheSnow #LaSociedadDeLaNieve #VFX

This is an example of one of the many improv exercises we practiced during the rehearsals for Society of the Snow. Each cast member introduces himself/herself to the other actors playing the character he/she portrays. Blas Polidori’s introduction as Gustavo "Coco" Nicolich is a pitch perfect display of the sensitivity, respect and commitment all the actors showed towards their characters and the story we were telling. Esto es un ejemplo de una de las muchas improvisaciones que hicimos durante el proceso de ensayos de La Sociedad de la Nieve. En este ejercicio cada miembro del cast se presentaba al resto como los personajes que interpretan.
