Betty Wamaitha had KSh 5–10 million invested in a 10-acre farm in Narok. She had the spreadsheets, the projections and people on the ground managing it while she worked from Nairobi. Then she went to the farm just before harvest. The crops were gone. So were the irrigation pipes. Everything on 10 acres had disappeared. A painful reminder that a good investment model can still fail when you cannot see what is happening on the ground. Full episode now on YouTube and all streaming platforms.

Marikiti kuna wenyewe. Kevin Kamau learned this the hard way when he arrived at Nairobi's Marikiti Market with a truckload of potatoes, ready to sell. After queuing from 3 a.m. to secure a spot, he discovered that getting into the market was only half the challenge. Traders could tell he was an outsider, buyers kept passing his truck, and hours went by without a sale. His experience reveals a side of agricultural trade that rarely gets discussed: beyond producing quality crops, farmers still have to navigate market access, established relationships and the unwritten rules of doing business.

Most people think cars are depreciating liabilities. Earl Karanja built a global business around the opposite idea. From flipping Toyota Prados in Kenya to brokering Bugattis and rare Ferraris for ultra-wealthy collectors, he explains how rarity, heritage, and culture drive long-term value in the collector car market and why some vehicles quietly outperform traditional assets over time. He also opens up about losing €200,000 in a scam, spending five years before the business stabilized, and navigating global business barriers as an African entrepreneur.

A wedding can cost you long after the guests have gone home. Namelessmusic™ looks back at his wedding and admits that, years later, the money spent on that one day feels different. 250 emails in one day. Hundreds of DMs. Mostly silence. Ashok Sunny was trying to break into Kenya’s high-net-worth market, and he realised something important: these clients often move in the same circles. Instead of trying to reach everyone, he looked for the person others in the room respected. Google, Instagram, cold emails and DMs became his route in. The first breakthrough came when Darshan Chandaria replied and invited him over. They barely talked about suits. He wanted to hear Ashok’s story. Four years after Ashok first DM’d Joshua Oigara, that message finally came full circle too. Sometimes the work you put in today only makes sense years later. Integrity is easy to put in a company pitch. It becomes much harder when there is KES 80 million a year on the table. Chief Entrepreneur and his team had spent almost nine months developing a proof of concept for a government agency. As they got closer to signing, he says they were asked to structure the deal through a special purpose vehicle involving an offshore company. Joram says he later understood that the offshore company may have been connected to an executive within the agency. They walked away. What made the decision difficult wasn’t only the size of the opportunity. It was the nine months already spent building towards it. And it wasn’t an isolated experience. Joram says there have been other occasions where, after successfully pre-qualifying for work, his team was asked to attend meetings to discuss what would “go back” to people involved in the process. His response to his team is now straightforward: if that conversation is a condition of getting the business, they don’t take the meeting.

At 23, Valentine Njoroge had already helped connect $1.5 million to African businesses. It all started with a call from a former client in New York looking for investment opportunities in Africa. She introduced him to an SME, the deal closed at $200,000, and when he asked, "What's your fee?" she realised she had no idea what to charge. A quick search introduced her to the concept of a 7% finder's fee. She invoiced it. He paid. What began as one introduction soon caught the attention of the CMA, forcing her to rethink how the business would operate. 🎧 Full episode now on YouTube and all streaming platforms.
