On Monday, Director Kerner and Colonel Howze went to the legislature to express their concerns about the legislature's immigration bill. They asked for changes, including removing provisions that limited communication and coordination between state and local law enforcement agencies and federal partners, but this did not occur. This type of language in the bill creates vulnerabilities that could compromise officer safety and that will ultimately hinder the mission of illegal immigration enforcement. The legislature's bill does not consider critical operational needs that support law enforcement. Unfortunately, the legislature did not coordinate or communicate with our law enforcement agency while drafting their bill.

The Florida Highway Patrol at Ron DeSantis' direction is leading on immigration enforcement. FHP is the first trained and deployed entity under 287(g) federal authority to enforce federal immigration law, and we are helping build a model that can be replicated nationwide. The Florida Highway Patrol FHP Orlando and the Orange County Sheriff's Office partnered to stop two separate street takeover events this weekend in Orange County. The Florida Highway Patrol made multiple arrests during these events. Three separate vehicles received 30 day impounds for their participation in these illegal activities.
