All this data center talk, I personally think Florida should just focus most of its energy on advertising the state as the most unique place in the world and get more people visiting here. Seriously, there is no other place in the world where you can swim with dolphins, catch the most exotic fish, walk sugar coated sand, experience college football, take in professional sports (the GOAT in Miami!), ride remarkable coasters, visit magnificent amusement parks, gamble at the Hard Rock, golf the best courses nonstop, bet on the horses, scuba dive in fresh water springs, see car racing of all kinds, museum hop, craft breweries stop, concert tour shop, and that’s just the start. Bottom line, other states and countries NEED data centers because they don’t have what Florida has. I know Straight Florida and Branch Floridian will get mad at me for promoting more tourists to the state, and making up with Canadians, but if it means keeping data centers from consuming our precious resources, I’m all for it.

Just so we’re clear, Florida beaches like Clearwater Beach are 💯 times better than California beaches. Just like CaliRN619 🚑🩺🚑 mentioned, No crime, no homelessness, no druggies passed out on the beach, no panhandling. Thank you Ron DeSantis for keeping Florida great.

This could possibly be the worst casualty of the Covid “pandemic” in which some people were scared to a point of complete panic and shut down for months on end to a point where they simply decided to end all operations. Haslam’s Book Store was Florida's largest new and used bookstore, located at 2025 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Founded in 1933, the massive 30,000-square-foot institution was beloved for housing over 300,000 volumes. I used to take my kids here when they were younger (obviously before 2020). It was an incredible place to walk the aisles and look at the old and new books. The owners had the friendliest cats that hung out on the counters. There were places to sit throughout the giant store to read. It was like a museum. It was the definition of iconic. Then, Covid hit, people freaked out, the owners shut down Haslem’s and it has never opened since. The signage — “Florida’s largest bookstore” — on the outside walls was painted over just a few months ago and the giant sign was taken down. But surprisingly the books, postcards, maps (yes, maps of everywhere!), encyclopedias, you-name-it still sit inside lonely and waiting for their words to be read. It’s like a book version of Toys movie in the making with novels just waiting to find a home. I need to find out what’s the next chapter of this place. My daughter told me today when we drove by she wants it as a graduation present; she literally learned to read there because I took her so often. It’s gut wrenching to see it abandoned like a wild west scene. I guess I’m on a mission now.

I did a staycation at the hotel formerly known as Postcard Inn (or PCI to us locals), which suffered immense damage after Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. It’s called The Luce, an upscale version of PCI and is now referred to as a boutique hotel. The St. Pete Beach resort has new owners and it’s a testament to Floridians’ resilience with workers having had to clear out over five feet of sand from the premises. The hotel opened a little over two months ago and I highly recommend visiting it, either as a staycation (I met a few people from Orlando who did so) or if you’re looking for a place to stay when you come to Florida. I’m sick and tired of all these “conservatives” whining and moaning about Donalds like there was no election and blaming him for everything. For example, he’s not even governor yet, but y’all are blaming him for future growth and development. Um, y’all are the problem and the ones to blame for these cows being on a “farm” in the middle of massive amount of development, not Byron Donalds. YOU!! Floridians who have lived here for decades are to blame for not pushing back with a massive amount of protests. Floridians who recently moved here are to blame for ADDING TO OUR POPULATION and forcing more growth and development. And to now say you’re gonna vote for Jolly to “get back at MAGA and the GOP.” Bruh, y’all literally helped fuel it, voting for Trump multiple times but NOW, you’ve had enough?? It’s comical. The entire behavior by y’all is just Mel Brooks type comedy. Or it’s like Colonel Jessup lecturing the court about “the truth.” But now, the growth and development is the future governor’s fault?? Whatever can help you sleep at night, I guess.

The difference between a city in Florida celebrating a victory in a major sports championship and a city in New York or California is glaring. Notice how there isn’t a massive amount of violence, riots, burning cars; it’s just fun and respectful celebration.

Whatever your thoughts are of any of the Republican candidates, just remember this, if David Jolly becomes the governor of Florida, be prepared to have a worse state than California, beginning with the loss of medical freedom. This soundbite should be played on repeat by Florida GOP Any conservative even considering voting for Jolly is a fraud and an enemy of what Ron DeSantis has established over the past eight years. #ladapo

I drove by the restaurant formerly known as Woody’s Waterfront in St. Pete Beach to see if the social media superstar Tfue had started any work on it and the surrounding property but it still just sits there. The Pinellas County native from Indian Rocks Beach bought the property in January 2026 for approximately $2.4 million. Perhaps he’s waiting on the turtle ordinance process of St. Pete Beach to get things going.
