In this afternoon's debate about the Gov relationship with charities, Stephen Kerr MSP raised the issue of almost wholly-funded lobby groups which pose as charities to help push Gov agenda. He mentioned Dan Sanderson report & comments by Alex Neil Gov benches not happy!

Today in #FMQs, Malcolm Offord MSP asked Swinney if he welcomed Lady Ross's ruling on the case brought by the "excellent" FWS & ensure that all the public sector conformed to the law to avoid more suits. He also asked that material from activist groups which was contrary to law be withdrawn & cessation of production of such guidance be a condition of funding. Swinney says he believes in the rule of law & all guidance has to adhere to the law (he neglects to acknowledge that it has not to date).

Today in Finance and Public Admn Committee, Michelle Thomson asked Perm Sec Scot why Scottish Government is not following the law & why they are not consulting with FWS but only Trans activist groups. She also draws attention to the cost of court cases & says that more will come.

.@AshReganMSP rightly points out that public trust in the Scottish Parliament is at its lowest point. So today, they made it worse by voting to exclude her for pointing out Chapman's incendiary comments which broke all the rules in undermining the judiciary. A Gov which claims to care about VAW has now (deliberately?) caused issues ahead of her #Unbuyable Bill. After today we cannot say this shambles of an institution is consistent. John Mason, rightly, points out that the wrong MSP has been sanctioned.

Despite clear advice from EHRC EHRCChair that Scottish Government needs to follow law, the Perm Sec Scot is still unable to say what action they have taken. Under questioning from Michelle Thomson, he cannot confirm they have taken any specific action beyond talking about action.

.Douglas Ross MSP rightfully angry as, again, his urgent question is knocked by by Alison Johnstone. He accuses the PO of shielding ministers by blocking qns on their "bizzare arguments". "What is more urgent than this Gov saying male prisoner should be in the female prison estate".

Oh dear, Alex Cole-Hamilton🔶🇺🇦. He's not going to "relitigate" GRR (how could he?) but he won't say if he would back the SNP & Greens if they try to bring it back. Although he wants a four nation Bill. Great. He can't even say that men shouldn't be in women's prisons. Pathetic!

In HoL today, Lord Strasburger asked about the delay in implementing the ruling in Gov. He says the Empire State Building was built in a year but that's not enough time to sort out toilets. Kishwer Falkner again challenges over the failure to lay the guidance, saying an SI is not affected by Purdah.

First, the good. Mims Davies MP was on blistering form as she slated the Government for sitting on the draft since last September, claiming they were “reluctant to face their own Back Benchers and protect vulnerable women and girls.” She also mocked “peak Lib Lib Dem-ery, with the party leader claiming to accept the Supreme Court’s judgment while opposing the guidance that flows from it.” Both these comments were to prove prescient.

Today in Scottish Parliament, Angela Constance was challenged by Tess White MSP & others about Scottish Government's deplorable decision to go to court to defend the prison policy which allows violent men to be housed with vulnerable women. Unsurprisingly, but disgracefully, the Minister refused to answer why the Gov are so determined to push ahead with what amounts to state sanctioned torture. Don't take our word for it - in 2023 the UN SR on torture said, in relation to Scottish prisons “Female prisoners have a right to be protected from violent sex offenders no matter how they identify. Where is the common sense? Clearer guidelines are needed.” There is no legal prohibition stopping the Gov from explaining why this unlawful policy is still in place. Ms Constance is very pleased with herself as the Gov have withdrawn the guidance on Public Boards. Slow hand clap. They HAD to. They have been proactive on nothing else. We share the frustration of Douglas Ross MSP who says the minister has misled Parl by saying they cannot answer. The Minister also refused to tell Pauline McNeill MSP why she thought this policy was acceptable adding, offensively, she didn't take legal advice from social media. Well and good, but I wish they would take it from lawyers instead of activists! Sharon Dowey MSP points out the risks to vulnerable women, the minister claims that no prisoners with a history of VAW are in the female estate. We know this isn't / hasn't been true. But even if it was, it is the stupidest argument to pretend that murders & torturers are held back from hurting women by some sort of chivalry. Douglas Ross MSP asks why we haven't got our money! We want to know that too! Apparently, it's due to "full legal advice" because "ultimately ministers have to comply with the law". Well, after that display, you could have fooled us!
