"White folks... within 30 years you will be a numerical minority in the United States of America, and you had better pray that People of Color are not going to get even with us..." [audience applause] Not exactly the best sales pitch to get white folks to want more diversity.

White people aren't gathering to hear rants against black people and then giving them thunderous applause. Racial animosity toward Whites is far more prevalent and accepted than white animosity toward others, even if the media would have you believe the exact opposite.

James Watson announced the double-helix structure of DNA this date in 1953, but in 2007 Watson was cancelled for saying he's gloomy about Africa's prospects because testing shows Africans' average intelligence is lower than Europeans. To try to stave off his persecution Watson issued the following apology: "I have had my share of controversy, as many of you know. But I am mortified about what has happened. More importantly, I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said. I can certainly understand why people, reading those words, have reacted in the ways they have. To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologize unreservedly. That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief."

As people around the globe ring in the new year, let's recall this fun Japanese New Year's tradition -- 10,000 Japanese performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. In 1914, World War I erupted and Japan sided with Great Britain and its allies. Japan demanded the surrender of a German base in China. When Germany refused, Japan invaded and detained almost 4,000 German soldiers as prisoners of war. About 1,000 of those German soldiers were sent to a POW camp in Naruto in the Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. The soldiers occupied their time in a variety of ways, from printing a camp newspaper to forming a camp orchestra. Beethoven's Ninth was a favorite among the POW orchestra. After the war ended, the former POWs performed the Ninth outside the camp walls for an audience in Naruto. In 1927, the piece was performed in its entirety by the Shin Kokyo Gakudan, or New Symphony Orchestra. The Ninth continued to grow in popularity. On December 31, 1940, a Polish conductor led a Japanese ensemble in a live radio performance of the Ninth to commemorate the creation of Japan. By the 1960s, the Ninth sold out concert halls across Japan and Beethoven's Ninth became a Japanese New Year's tradition.

The Jonestown Massacre occurred forty-five years ago today on November 18, 1978. 909 died; a third were children. Jim Jones' People's Temple is called a religious cult, but it was Marxist. Jones preached diversity, gay rights, and the end of American oppression. It was Woke. 🧵

When James Watson said Africans are less intelligent than Europeans people called to strip his Nobel Prize, but when Toni Morrison said Whites show less humanity than others and called life race war there were no calls to strip Morrison's Nobel Prize. She's viewed as anti-racist.
