Met Police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley tells LBC the government ‘is silent’ on what impact sentencing reforms will have for policing. He says having more criminals on the streets instead of behind bars will ‘wash back on policing’ and chiefs need to know ‘how many more hundreds of millions’ of pounds are needed to deal with it. But the data hasn’t been shared with them. It’s as he - and five other chiefs - publicly urged the chancellor for more money in next month’s sentencing review, saying plans to halve knife crime and violence against women can’t be achieved without it. ‘We felt over the weekend we had to put this out there to say don’t forget about policing’. He adds: ‘demand for police is going up 5% a year. With all that pressure, we need more money’.
