They still haven’t actually understood what the whole “7 game tournament” thing means. No one is trying to downplay the World Cup. This argument originally came up in 2023 and the point was simply that Haaland should have won the Ballon d’Or that year and that Messi’s seven games shouldn’t outweigh an entire season. It was never about the tournament being less valuable; it is still the greatest tournament in football and no one has said anything different. The point was just that seven matches are not automatically worth more than sixty simply because it is the World Cup. And Ronaldo had the same thought. A seven game tournament can’t define an entire career consisting of nearly 1300 games. That’s not fair.
