In my first surgery as an MP, I met a constituent who received an 'unspent' conviction for a one-off crime committed 34 years ago as a juvenile. Despite turning his life around, his unspent conviction continues to cause him hardship & insecurity. I asked Ministers if they will reform the law around unspent convictions so that young offenders can properly rebuild their lives 👇

Thanks to BBC for joining me on a frosty morning as I took a spin in a special operations combat delivery vehicle. Made by British company JFD Global and used by multiple NATO partners currently, the SEAL Carrier was put through its paces by the Commando Force and UK Defence partners in Plymouth. Quite disconcerting to semi-submerge in it while underway! The vessel fills up with water and most of your body goes underwater, which reduces the profile. It can go the next step and dive too. I’m very lucky to be a Plymouth MP at this time of massive opportunity for the city, and proud to be championing that. JFD currently manufcature these in Scandinavia but there is scope to bring those jobs here, if things continue to line up well

I ran for election on the Labour manifesto, that promised to make work pay & improve working conditions. In our first 100 days we introduced an Employment Rights Bill. 👉 Ending exploitative zero-hours contracts 👉 Strengthening Statutory Sick Pay 👉 Ending fire and rehire These are just a few of the changes we’re making to make people in Plymouth better off.

🚨 I've asked the CEO of South West Water, Susan Davy, for an urgent meeting 🚨 I'm demanding a clear timeline for return of water to Plymouth residents. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Residents deserve to hear from the accountable leadership. This isn't the first time South West Water have been missing in action, see this video from February, with questioning from my colleague Helena Dollimore MP.

Jumped on a night shift at Derriford A&E in Plymouth and seen genuine heroics by staff delivering care for patients from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. But we desperately need more beds, more space. 5 critical incidents this year and the UK’s longest ambulance handover times. I’ll be following up with Wes Streeting and Karin Smyth urgently back in Westminster.

Like many people in Plymouth, I come from a Cornish family. My grandfather spent his life working for Cornwall, out of a lifelong love & championing of what it means to be Cornish. He would be utterly devastated at the idea of Cornish people missing out on opportunity. The choice is between new houses, jobs and powers for Cornish people on one hand, or isolation and nationalism on the other.

The Government has given Plymouth City Council a further £2.2 million to help support local people during the next six months. This is great news and I know this money will be going to help those that need cost-of-living support through the upcoming winter. Applications for the Household Support Fund will open in November.
