I came across this video of a young lady that was weeping during a priestly ordination in one of the dioceses in Nigeria last week Saturday. As expected, it attracted all kinds of reactions. Some immediately concluded that she was crying because "her boyfriend had left her to become a priest," along with many other dismissive comments. Those reactions are not the focus of this post. Perhaps I'll address them another day. What caught my attention was the explanation of someone who knew the young lady and her family and was present at the ordination. He shared that the lady weeping in the video and the newly ordained priest are the only two children in their family. The priest ordained that day was her only brother and seeing him ordained got her emotional. Many people may not understand that emotion, but I do. It reminds me of my own ordination to the diaconate. My mum cried almost throughout the entire Mass (Perhaps, if that scene were caught on the camera, someone might have concluded that it was a sugar mummy crying because her sugar son left her to become a priest😁). You see, people often think priestly ordination is only a joyful celebration. It is. But for many families, it is also a moment of profound sacrifice. From the day a man is ordained, he belongs to God in a new and irrevocable way. It does not mean he stops loving his family or cuts ties with them. But then, his life is no longer his own. His availability, his time, his heart, and his ministry are now given to the whole Church. Even when a priest visits his family during his vacation, he soon realizes he is no longer simply "at home." He returns as a son, certainly, but also as a priest. His parish becomes his home, and the people entrusted to his care become his family. This quiet sacrifice is one of the hidden dimensions of the priestly vocation. It is rarely spoken about, yet it is deeply real, not only for the priest, but also for those who love him most. Fr. The emotional moment when parishioners bid farewell to their pastor at the end of his mission. For us priests, these moments are never easy. When you have prayed with the people, wept with them, celebrated their joys, buried their loved ones, and become part of their family, saying goodbye is more than a transfer; it is a separation of hearts. Such is the beauty and the cost of pastoral ministry❤️

This is so emotional to watch. Fr. Santiago Quemada is a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei priest who spent more than ten years serving in Jerusalem. During one of his vacations, he suffered a heart attack while playing tennis. The incident left him with severe neurological damage. He is now unable to speak or care for himself, and his family especially his mother accompanies and looks after him each day. In this video, accompanied by his mother, he was able to meet with Pope Leo XIV during the Holy Father's Apostolic Visit to Spain last month. May God be with his priest, Fr Santiago in his current situation and bless his mother for looking after him🙏🏿

Life is truly fleeting. This video of Bishop Augustine Akubeze of Benin Archdiocese was recorded just six days ago during his visit to one of his priests serving in a parish in the UK. This evening, we received the heartbreaking news of his passing. One moment, we are making memories. The next, we become memories. May the Lord whom he served faithfully grant him eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.

This particular event will continue to be one of my greatest highlights of the pontificate of Pope Francis. It was in the year 2020, in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pope Francis, 83, slightly bent, limping, weak, and frail, walked up the stairs of St Peter's Square, stood alone on the rainy and deserted ground of St Peter's Square, and prayed for an end of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that instant, he exemplified his name, Papa (fathe) - Father of the whole world. Never to be forgotten.

At 30, he already had 2 two university and ran his own multi million naira company. But when God came calling, like Peter, Andrew, James, and John, he left everything behind and followed God. Like Paul, he counted everything as loss because of the surpassing love of serving God as a priest. What you see in this video is the pure and undiluted joy of selfless service to God as a priest💯✅
