In 1963, as a young priest, Cardinal Simoni was arrested, tortured, and sentenced to death by the Communist authorities for offering Mass for the soul of John F. Kennedy. His sentence was later converted to life imprisonment of hard labor. Communist authorities offered to free him if he renounced his faith. He didn’t and after 28 years of penal labour, he was eventually freed. Pope Francis heard his testimony during his trip to Albania in September 2014, visibly moved to tears by the words of this priest, whom he always called a “living martyr”. In 2016, Pope Francis named him a Cardinal, thanking him for this testimony "that does good for the Church." He chose the motto: “My Immaculate Heart will Triumph.”

THE REMARKABLE BOND BETWEEN JOHN PAUL II AND BENEDICT XVI • 1962-1965: Both participated in the Second Vatican Council but in different roles. Karol Wojtyła (John Paul II) participated as a bishop of Poland, contributing to the Council’s discussions and documents. Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) participated as a young theologian and peritus (expert adviser). • 1978: They first met personally during the pre-conclave meetings and conclave that elected Pope John Paul I. A friendship began to develop. • 1981: John Paul II appointed Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, beginning a close collaboration that lasted nearly 24 years. • 2005: As John Paul II lay dying, Ratzinger visited him. Their final meeting took place on the eve of the Pope’s death. • 2 April 2005: John Paul II died. Ratzinger, then Dean of the College of Cardinals, became a central figure in the Church’s mourning. • 8 April 2005: Ratzinger presided over his friend’s funeral Mass, delivering a moving homily that honoured the late Pope’s life and ministry. • 19 April 2005: Just 11 days after the funeral, Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope and took the name Benedict XVI.

This is not a concert. This is a prayer vigil with Pope Leo and 80,000 young people at the Stade de France in Paris🇫🇷 What a beautiful sight! It is encouraging to see the Catholic faith so visibly alive among young people in France. The Church is alive!

This is the stadium of Real Madrid. But today, it is not filled for football. Over 80,000 Catholics from the Diocesan Community of Madrid gathered here for an encounter with Pope Leo. In a world that constantly predicts the decline of faith, moments like this remind us of a simple truth: The Church is alive.

Parents presenting their sons to the altar for priestly ordination. Years of raising, praying for, and nurturing him are now placed in God's hands in a new way. They are, in a sense, saying, "Lord, he was always Yours. Thank You for choosing him." It is a proof that every priestly vocation is first a gift from God, lovingly entrusted through a family.

You remember the viral video of a Catholic priest that was seen weeping during the celebration of the Mass? He has released a statement to explain what he experienced. Take time to read. It'll uplift your faith and make you appreciate the Mass all the more. ------------------------------------- A Statement from Father Brent Bowman on Eucharistic Experience During Mass September 16, 2026 To the good people of God: Praise be Jesus Christ, now and forever! On Monday, September 14, I celebrated the Holy Mass for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hopkins, MN. Present were Chesterton Academy students, faculty and staff and parishioners of the parish. During the Mass, I had a private spiritual experience while praying the Eucharistic prayer over the bread and wine and I want to humbly share and clarify what I experienced all for God’s glory and praise. In doing so, I also want to correct any misinformation as the Mass recording is being shared online. To clarify up front, my experience was NOT what the Catholic Church considers a “Eucharistic miracle.” The forms of bread and wine retained their accidents (i.e., their appearance and taste) during this entire experience. Never did I see real blood or human flesh with my eyes. My experience was this: During the consecration prayer over the wine at the altar, as I spoke the words, I was given what I believe to be internal knowledge of the power of these words being spoken and the reality of their effect to the point that I had difficulty speaking. With each word, I became more physically overwhelmed as seen in the video. At the same time, I was given sensory knowledge of the weight of God’s power coming down upon the altar, and I felt the heaviness of Jesus’s substantial presence in the chalice in my hands. The chalice became too heavy to hold as I felt it pulled down to rest upon the altar. I felt my hands fixed to the chalice of the Precious Blood, and I could not physically move it. Attempting to elevate the Precious Blood, which I was not able to do for a period of time, I believe I was given grace to understand more deeply the bittersweetness of Our Lord’s Passion and how much blood Christ shed for the immense weight of all our sins. I believe I experienced this weight in the chalice. This spiritual experience emotionally and physically overwhelmed me as evident in the Mass recording. Lastly, private spiritual encounters with God like these are completely unmerited gifts and signs of God’s abundant love for all his people. They are not necessarily signs of any person’s holiness. I pray this brief testimony moves all our hearts to contemplate more deeply the mysteries of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and the Precious Blood. Peace in Christ, Fr. Brent Bowman Copied from the Diocese of St Paul
