A todos los argentinos les pido disculpas de corazón. Sé lo mucho que significaba este partido para todos. Dejé absolutamente todo en la cancha y jamás tuve la intención de dejar al equipo con diez jugadores. Al mismo tiempo, sinceramente creo que no recibimos un trato justo. Cada uno podrá juzgar la jugada por su cuenta, pero desde mi punto de vista, el castigo no estuvo a la altura de la acción. Así es el fútbol, y a veces estas cosas juegan en tu contra. Respetamos a Argentina porque tiene jugadores de clase mundial, pero también la estudiamos a fondo antes de la final. Sabíamos exactamente dónde estaban sus mayores fortalezas y nos preparamos para ellas. La gente siempre habla de las individualidades, pero el fútbol es un deporte colectivo. Incluso si Lamine Yamal no está en su mejor nivel, tenemos suficiente calidad en toda la plantilla para ganar partidos porque este equipo no depende de un solo jugador. Tenemos futbolistas en todas las posiciones capaces de decidir encuentros. Del otro lado, creíamos que si lográbamos limitar a su jugador clave e impedir que influyera en el juego, Argentina tendría dificultades para generar la misma magia que suele mostrar. Fue un partido muy físico, con entradas fuertes por parte de ambos equipos, pero eso es fútbol. Recurrir a la violencia porque el resultado no salió como esperabas es algo que no puedo apoyar ni defender. Todo jugador tiene la responsabilidad de respetar el juego, a sus rivales y a los millones de personas que lo ven en todo el mundo. Ese es el ejemplo que el fútbol siempre debe dar.”
