Partisan redistricting allows those in power to choose their voters rather than the voters choosing who to put into power. It leads to even fewer competitive races, lower voter turnout, and more extreme candidates on both sides. This is not how you describe healthy democracy, but it's the intended and actual result of gerrymandering. It's unfolding again--right now--in Texas and is threatening to spread to other states as retaliation.
