Hezbollah publishes: “The nightmare is returning… it has already returned” Explosive devices have long been a nightmare for the Israeli invaders in southern Lebanon. Military correspondent Avi Ashkenazi, writing in the Israeli newspaper Maariv, warned of the return of what he described as a “nightmare” linked to Hezbollah’s weapons, referring to explosive devices that posed a major threat to Israeli occupation forces in southern Lebanon over past decades. He said that the danger of these devices haunted every soldier and military unit operating in southern Lebanon during the 1980s and 1990s, when the Israeli occupation army was engaged in the so-called security zone inside Lebanese territory. He added that the effectiveness of these explosive devices in Lebanon is tied to several field factors, including the complex geography, dense vegetation outside populated areas, and weather conditions such as fog and low visibility for long periods of the year, factors that give Hezbollah fighters an advantage in this type of operation.
