If you ever get a Great Pyrenees know they don’t fetch. They don’t retrieve. If you throw a ball, they’ll look at you like “well that was stupid. Now you have to go get it.” They’re bred to go on a hilltop with sheep and watch them alone for days. So they expect that you trust them to make their own decisions. They enjoy sitting and observing, and patrolling. Then more observing. Then more patrolling. They like to sleep in places where they can see everything.

My step dad had an outpatient procedure yesterday, and the recovery was a bit more than expected so my mom asked if we’d take their dog “Daisy” (aka Tricky-woo) for a couple of days. Daisy has a slightly different lifestyle when she’s vacationing at the farm. Our little Great Pyrenees puppy, Bessie, is now bigger than the miniature golden-doodle, Daisy. Bessie doesn’t play fetch, but she does like chasing Daisy when she plays fetch, and steal the ball from her.

I woke up stressed. I don’t know why. The boys didn’t clean their rooms. I didn’t sleep the best. I did so much cooking and so many dishes last night. Everyone was too busy. The bugs everywhere need to die already. Bring on the cold to kill them all. I brought the kids to school, then remembered we live in lake country, MN. I don’t know if you can go a mile without finding a lake here. So I pulled over at the next lake I found in town, just to sit awhile, and watch the waterbirds for a moment. It doesn’t take long to reset. You can hear the playground noises in the background.
