At least 15 cases of sexual assaults, including rape. Shot with rubber bullets at close range. Tens of people’s bones broken. While the world’s eye is trained on the suffering of our participants, we cannot emphasize enough that this is a mere glimpse of the brutality israel imposes daily on Palestinian hostages. URGENT UPDATE: Illegally detained Sumud volunteers are now on their 4th day of a dry hunger strike (no food, no water) and their condition is critical. Since Monday, ten people detained in Benghazi have been refusing food, with many also refusing water, in protest of prolonged illegal detention, mistreatment, and being denied legal counsel. Some have been forced to break the strike, but many continue as their health deteriorates. Their lives are at risk. 🚨 URGENT: GSF PARTICIPANTS BRUTALIZED BY IOF AFTER 40 HOURS AT SEA 🚨 Global Sumud Flotilla participants have just survived 40 hours of calculated cruelty aboard an iOF navy vessel in Greek waters. They were denied adequate food and water. They were forced to sleep on floors that were deliberately and repeatedly flooded. When the military moved to abduct two participants, Saif Abukeshek (Spain / Palestinian origins) and Thiago Ávila (Brazil), our crew peacefully resisted and the response was sheer violence. Participants were punched, kicked, and dragged across the deck with their hands bound behind their backs. They suffered broken noses, cracked ribs and bloody beatings. Shots were even fired at them in the chaos. The nightmare isn't over. Greek police are now trapping our battered crew on buses, denying them the freedom to leave while Saif and Thiago have been abducted and taken back to Occupied Palestine. Our participants remain unbroken: 60 participants have immediately launched a hunger strike. This is a vicious attack on peaceful civilians. We will not look away. All they have is violence. We have love, community, and care for one another and that is something no occupier can ever break. For decades, they have committed grave injustices and unleashed grotesque violence in an attempt to crush Palestinian resistance (the defence of land, dignity, and life). Now that same violence is being turned on anyone who dares to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. But violence has never succeeded in breaking people’s spirit. It only strengthens our love for one another and deepens our resolve. We are more determined than ever. Participants in the Flotilla have shown us what resistance rooted in love and solidarity looks like. We must keep fighting for the world we know is possible.

Our activists are being subjected to violent abuse after being illegally abducted at sea while attempting to break the siege on Gaza. “No one is allowed to see what is happening in Gaza. Gaza is just a box and no one is allowed to look inside it. It is completely sealed.
