What’s it like to be on tv with a shot on 18 and the cameras on? Well, this wasn’t exactly the same yday but it’s at East Lake, site of Tour Championship. 237 yds in to the par 5 with second shot. Was cold, in the 40’s, cross wind right to left. Bullet 3 wd.

It’s here. The grand reopening of our 1921 AW Tillinghast/Keith Foster restored Lakewood CC. It feels like Christmas morning! I’m so thrilled for our membership and what they get to experience today. It’s been a long road to this point. But we made it. There’s a new sheriff in Northern Ohio, and it’s Lakewood CC.

It’s here. The grand reopening of our 1921 AW Tillinghast/Keith Foster restored Lakewood CC. It feels like Christmas morning! I’m so thrilled for our membership and what they get to experience today. It’s been a long road to this point. But we made it. There’s a new sheriff in Northern Ohio, and it’s Lakewood CC.

Took a walk around Lakewood CC this past wknd for the first time since December to see how the course held up through the winter. Everything looks good. We are ready for some spring sun and warmth to begin the growth season. A big question I get is what was done to the Great Hazard on #6 which is now #15. It was completely redone. Moved about 15-20 yds forward so a lay up is a shorter shot. The left side was opened up and fairway expanded to allow for a bail out if you don’t take on the entire span. The hazard itself was sunken down about 3 ft to allow you to see it from the tee and fairway. It was also expanded diagonally to the right as that side is where you want to come in from on your third shot but you better make sure you can clear the top right of it. The last pic compliments of J. Liebert Golf Pics is the before version. I’d say the new version is pretty darn good.

It’s the eve of the grand reopening of Lakewood CC. Our 1921 Tillinghast original is ready to be unveiled to the membership tomorrow. Here is the final flyover of our new #4 (old #11). This par longer 4 is in the running for biggest hole transformation. When our architect Keith Foster first walked the golf course, I asked him what his fav hole was and he said this hole because of its potential. Two massive original Sahara bunkers that were never filled in with sand were brought to life. The first tree on the right off the tee was removed yesterday and the view is even better. Enjoy

On this Thanksgiving, as always I’m extremely grateful for my family, my friends (many of you on here), my health, etc. This year there is a lot to add to that list. In July my beloved Lakewood CC embarked on a restoration project that has turned out to be far better than anyone imagined. It would not have been possible without all that have been involved: First and foremost, I’m so thankful to the Lakewood membership for the support and trust given to the project. You will all be so proud. Next, my fellow Board members. We’ve spent a lot of stressful hours getting this thing to the finish line. To the office admin and the kitchen staff and the servers - thank you all for taking care of us the way you do. To my head professional Tim Perin Lakewood Golf Shop and your constant fight to keep this going. To my GM Alfredo C. Hildebrandt - thank you for coming back and changing the culture and mindset - we’re on offense now sir! To the construction minds that put this together Total Turf Golf Michael J Kuhn Jr @Heritage-Links Pro/Angle Sand Best Sand, the work you all do is truly incredible. You are masters of your craft and the work shows. To Keith Foster (not on Twitter), thank you for taking that call back in January of 2020. You took a chance on our old worn out Tillinghast. You saw the vision we had and made it come to life. Your talent is incredible - true artistry. Lastly, to my Supe Aaron Archambault and his assistant Andrew Higgins. I don’t think words can describe the gratitude I have for you two. The amount of hours you’ve put in to this, most wouldn’t do. The stress you’ve endured, the labor that you’ve given has been unimaginable. It has been one of the most fulfilling things of my life to go through this with you guys. Day after day - I’d look at you and know the kind of day it was - good or bad. THANK YOU! There’s new life on the west side of Cleveland. I can’t wait for the golf world to see it unveiled. I wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
