Impounded for further criminal investigation. South Africa needs stronger policing, that’s why we will build a Cape Town Metro Police Detectives Unit to investigate crimes ourselves.

🚨 I joined DA Johannesburg Mayoral Candidate Helen Zille on an oversight visit to the Olifantsvlei Wastewater Treatment Works. What I witnessed was shocking. Local businessmen like Mr Mabenza have been forced to close their shops, killing jobs in Jo’burg. This is a result of years of neglect and financial mismanagement. It can be fixed with the right leadership that prioritises infrastructure maintenance and ensures public funds are spent on the people. 30 June: I took the bus this morning, and it was business as usual. We are keeping Cape Town working today. Our Metro Police and Law Enforcement are out across the city monitoring for any disruption attempts. Cape Town is the only working city in SA. Today we will keep it that way and uphold law and order 🇿🇦

This is how the criminal justice system is failing South Africans. Communities live in fear of gang violence and drug crimes, while criminals roam free. Today we announced our pledge to build South Africa’s first Metro Police Detectives Unit here in Cape Town 👮♂️👏 SAPS has failed to fight crime, they need our help to catch criminals and investigate cases properly. We’ve already deployed thousands of new Metro Police officers, now we take Cape Town forward for all 💙

🚧 N2 Safety Project: Great to get support from residents along the N2 as we work to repair safety barriers, improve lighting and create new pedestrian crossings. Thousands of residents from Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha, Blue Downs, Eerste River, Mfuleni and the Helderberg use this highway daily. We are working for their safety! ✅

I’ve heard of a so-called "shutdown" planned for 20 March across SA. Cape Town is focused on growing the economy to get more people into jobs & will not allow violence to disrupt this. We will be open for business as usual. Those responsible for violence will be arrested.
