The movie I kept thinking about while watching Citizen Vigilante was Abel Ferrara’s Ms .45. It’s the story of a beautiful, mute woman who goes on a rampage after being raped twice in one day. She first targets predators, then she becomes indiscriminate. Unlike Citizen Vigilante, this film makes her answer for that. It isn’t morally clean, but at least Ferrara understood crossing that line costs something. Citizen Vigilante mistakes a sociopathic landlord with a podcast for a righteous avenger. Formally, Ms .45 is also just a far better movie.

Everyone will remember Robert Duvall for The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Rightfully so. But as we celebrate his life, seek out the performances that meant the most to him: Tender Mercies, where he found God in a quiet Texas town. The Apostle, which he spent 13 years getting made. His family asked his fans to honor him by “watching a great film, telling a good story around a table with friends, or taking a drive in the countryside.” That sounds about right to me. RIP to a legend.

There’s a simple reason for this: Our culture rewards vulgarity yet most women are attracted to gentlemen. Not clowns or dudes who wear more makeup than they do. The few guys who still elicit these reactions are crooners like Michael Bublé and Luis Miguel—masculine and elegant.

One of the trademarks of Buckley’s New Right critics is that few have actually read him. They’d have you think he was some kind of open borders advocate. Yet, in truth, he was calling for drastic cuts to immigration in the 90s. These people are ignorant. Ignore them.

The world just lost one of the classiest women ever to appear on the silver screen with the passing of Claudia Cardinale. Few actors can claim to have starred in masterpieces—she graced three: 8 ½, The Leopard, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Grazie di tutto, Claudia.

The all-time best is Frank Sinatra. But the best living singer is a US-born Mexican crooner named Luis Miguel. The way I describe him to non-Latinos is to imagine Sinatra’s style with Freddie Mercury’s vocals and Elvis’s stage presence—backed by the Count Basie Orchestra.
