Honestly getting burned to death by a flamethrower is one of the worst ways to die I have to admit the cinematography is amazing. In this scene, the French are all hidden by the smoke. They don't talk, and appear brutal, ruthless, and effiecent. But when the Germans attack the French trench, it empathizes their faces. They speak, run, and beg, just like the Germans did here. Very simple, but very effective technique.

What I like about this film is how realistic the gun sound but also the stress of the soldiers. You can see how stressed the sergeant is when he's fumbling the STG 44 magazine. This movie is like a seven minute horror video but that's accurate because that's exactly what the war was like for the soldiers
