We cannot allow Russian bombers to be better protected than Ukrainian civilians are. Let's ask ourselves if we are being honest about how much we actually support Ukraine.

Today we, the Baltic States 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 and Czechia 🇨🇿 come to this Council to address the entire international community with a very simple message: For all our sakes, wake up. 🧵

Putin is spending $140bn while we struggle to promise fifty. We are basically sending him the message "We won't stop you", so he won't stop. But if we allocated $800bn, he would be forced to rethink. Yes, we could afford it. And yes, it would be cheaper than letting him carry on.

Putin has no intention of stopping. Those who think Minsk 3 would be the end of this war are showing gross naiveté, and that’s me choosing the most polite words I can. The only way to end this war is with Ukraine's outright victory, so we must come together to make that happen.

When Lithuania was defending her independence from Moscow, we were asked by Western powers to "pause" our struggle, to protect russia from collapse. If we had listened, our country might not exist today. Sometimes fighting is the only way to win.

We do not need Putin's permission to send troops to Ukraine, and Ukraine does not need his permission to invite us. Our dignity and Ukraine's sovereignty must be maintained, and giving Putin control over the deployment of our armed forces is unlikely to bring peace.

Nobody knows the exact timeline of Russia's madness, but we know Ukraine is buying us time and paying for it with blood. If Ukraine wins, Russia's expansionism will be halted. If not, we will be wishing we had used the bought time more efficiently.

Let's drop the naivité and accept that this war will end on the battlefield after Ukraine achieves the necessary military strength, not in a conference room after a round of talks and a carafe of wine.

The best way to help Ukraine is to help Ukraine win, but instead we are shielding Russia's occupation. If we cannot get over our fear of success, we will only invite more failure.

Europe doesn’t need a place at Trump and Putin’s table. Europe can make its own table, stop ruletaking and start rulemaking.

The Baltic States were abandoned to Kremlin occupation after WWII and brutally suppressed for 60 years before finally regaining independence by sacrificing blood, with no help from the West. Mark Rutte's casual talk of "de facto occupation" is therefore ignorant and terrifying.

Why do we call it "hybrid warfare"? Because if we called it terrorism then we would have to do something about it.

If Europe used Russia’s frozen assets to help Ukraine win, we wouldn’t need to beg America for a seat at their table.

We didn't want this war, it was Putin's choice, not ours. Now we must erase the red lines we drew for ourselves, turn the tide and equip Ukraine to win.

1/4🧵 I am sure there are many ways we could enforce a red line without triggering WWIII. Speaking in Kyiv recently I suggested telling Putin that Ukraine will get Taurus, to take out launch sites, if any Russian drones violate NATO airspace again. Why not?

If a country hires someone to burn down buildings in another country, that's not a "hybrid attack", that's state-sponsored terrorism.

Putin has threatened to use nuclear weapons many times, but it's always a bluff. He has nothing to gain from nuclear war, he has everything to lose. When his empty threats make us back down, he escalates anyway. Every time. That's the reality of de-escalation. BBC HARDtalk

The Syrian example shows that Russia can be kicked out and will go home. The Baltics were right – the West is strong enough to win. We don't need to fear "the Bear" in Ukraine or anywhere else he is causing chaos.

The Kremlin gets roughly 1/8th of its military budget from taxes on oil and gas bought by the EU. In other words, the EU is paying for 1/8th of every bomb landing on Ukraine. Do I need to draw you a picture? I drew you a picture.

I used my last doorstep at the FAC to state that peace through de-escalation is a failing and failed strategy. We need a new strategy, a winning strategy, a strategy of strength. Then the phonecalls would actually make sense.
