Context/Details 🚨 Amou Haji, an Iranian man, gained notoriety as the "World's Dirtiest Man" for not bathing for more than 60 years. Born on August 20, 1928, in Fars province, Persia, he passed away on October 23, 2022, at the age of 94. Haji's avoidance of bathing, which began around 1957-62, was due to his belief that soap and water might cause disease. His lifestyle was a result of emotional setbacks following a heartbreak. Living in the village of Dezh Gah in Fars province, Haji led a hermit-like existence. His diet consisted of meat from dead animals, particularly rotting porcupines, and he drank water from puddles and rusty oil cans. He smoked animal dung using an old pipe and wore a war helmet to keep warm. Haji lived in a hole he had dug himself and managed his hair by burning it off with a flame. His skin was covered with soot and pus due to his refusal to bathe. Haji was known for smoking multiple cigarettes simultaneously and refused water, food, and other basic necessities offered to him, stating that these attempts to care for him made him sad. Surprisingly, Haji was in good health for most of his life. Local doctors who examined him were astonished at his well-being despite his unhygienic lifestyle. Tests conducted by Dr. Gholamreza Mowlavi, an associate professor of parasitology, revealed that Haji was in great health, with the only ailment being trichinosis, a parasite infection caused by eating raw or undercooked meat. Interestingly, he died a few months after bathing for the first time in 60 years, having been persuaded by the inhabitants of his village.
