🚨🎙️| Jamie Carragher on Arsenal’s 3–1 defeat to Real Betis: 🗣️“I don’t want to hear anyone talking about Arsenal being ready for the Premier League after that performance. You lost 3–1 to Real Betis. A team Arsenal should be beating if they genuinely believe they’re ready to compete for the biggest trophies. And this isn’t even about the result. It’s the way they lost. Arsenal looked completely uncomfortable, and there was very little about that performance that convinced me this team is ready for another Premier League title race or a serious Champions League campaign. Imagine facing Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Real Madrid with that level of performance. What happens then? Arsenal fans will say it’s only pre-season, but every time a team wins in pre-season, suddenly we’re hearing about how incredible the new signings are and how this is finally their year. You can’t celebrate the good results and then hide behind ‘it’s only pre-season’ when you lose. If Real Betis can expose these problems, Premier League clubs will be licking their lips. Right now, Arsenal don’t look like a team preparing to win the Champions League. They look like a team preparing to explain another disappointing season.”

This is now two defeats in a row in pre-season. Real Betis beat them 3–1, Dortmund come to the Emirates and score three again. Yes, it’s pre-season, but you can’t just ignore everything you are seeing. For me, the biggest concern is Arsenal don’t look like a team that has improved enough. They still have the same problems. When the game becomes difficult, they struggle to control it, and defensively they continue to give teams opportunities. Arteta has been there long enough now. He’s had the money, he’s had the players, he’s had the time. At some point, you have to stop asking what Arsenal need and start asking whether the manager is actually getting the best out of what he already has. Because right now, I don’t see progress. I see a team that could finish the season exactly where they finished the last one: talking about potential, talking about improvement and explaining why next season will be different. If Arsenal genuinely believe they’re ready to challenge Europe’s best, they need to start looking like it.”
