Pune’s disastrous traffic situation is a classic case of the broken window effect. The system has collapsed because small violations became normalised. Every single day, thousands break basic traffic rules with absolutely no fear of consequences. And why would they? Traffic police are barely visible & enforcement is practically nonexistent. Admin washes their hands off by saying Punekars have no regard for the traffic laws. It’s easy blame the people for all civic failures!

PM Modi's decision to overlook the harsh language used by some young protesters reminded me of a memorable scene from the 1980 Telugu classic Sankarabharanam. A group of youngsters mock Maestro Sankara Sastry by blaring a Western pop tune outside his home. Instead of reacting with anger, he calmly reproduces their tune flawlessly, then invites them to sing one of his ragas. They can't. They say the best response to youthful rebellion isn't to take offense. It's to understand it, rise above it, and let time do the teaching.

Mangalagaur is a Maharashtrian ritual traditionally observed by newly married women on a Tuesday during the month of Shravan. The day begins with a fast & pooja followed in the evening by a gathering of women for darshan & the playing of Mangalagaur khel traditional games & performances that often depict the fun, playful dynamics between a newly married woman & her new family (the in-laws) This video is of one such entertaining performance, a mil & dil having a spirited argument over their respective interpretations of what qualifies as a peacock dance. Eventually, the Mil gives in :)
