Deansgate Chaos 🚗💥 Deansgate, Manchester’s key artery for over 200 years, is now a one-way bottleneck with half its width given to barely-used cycle lanes (unless you’re a Deliveroo rider). Pat Karney, Pat Karney I respect you, but this mess is on your watch. It took me 1 hour 10 mins just to get from Lloyd St to Princess Parkway — to start my journey home. Tourism won’t sustain this city forever. Commerce — Manchester’s true lifeblood — is suffering, with empty office space multiplying. Today I saw motorists fighting in the street. Total chaos. Sort it out before it’s too late. Today you are asking people not to drive into Manchester as you know with the Derby and other stuff going on, the city will be choked. Hopefully not to death. 💪if you agree with my sentiments, please like, RT this post and follow if you feel the council are wrong. 💪

I’ve made a video about this incident at The Clayton Hotel in Manchester and am dictating my recollection as soon as possible (one hour later, 11:30 am and sober!) to ensure my memory stays clear, especially if any of the staff members try to misrepresent what happened. They may have their own version, but who knows? I walked into the Clayton Hotel in Manchester. I’d just been next door, where the hotel has changed to Voco, where the staff were charming. I’d also had breakfast at The Alan earlier and was curious about who else is offering decent breakfasts in the area these days. I went up to the first floor, walked into the restaurant that serves breakfast, and had a quick look around. I checked the breakfast buffet area, lifted a few lids to see the quality of the food, and was about to leave when a young woman confronted me with, “Excuse me, what are you doing?” Her tone was sharp and unfriendly. I replied, “I’m just having a look around to see what you offer.” She responded, “Breakfast is finished. Would you leave now?” I said, “I’m not here for breakfast. I was just having a quick look.” She insisted, “Well, you can’t, and I’m going to walk you out now.” I’ve never felt intimidated in my life before — and I’ve been thrown out of places like Annabel’s, several bars in the Northern Quarter, the Plaza Hotel in New York, and even had a fight with Steve Rubel at Studio 54 in the eighties. I’ve generally been a bit of a nuisance in my time — but a pleasant one! Mainly drunk to be fair. However, I’ve never felt as intimidated as I did by this young woman. Maybe it’s because I’m nearly 70, my legs are a bit wobbly, due to diabetic retinopathy— but it was an awful feeling of intimidation. Was it bullying? As she was walking me out, another person, who seemed like she might be management, came up and confronted me as well. She asked, “What is going on?” I explained, “I’m sorry, I was just having a quick look around to see what you offer because I might be staying here in a week or two or possibly trying the food.” She responded, “Well, breakfast is finished. You can’t be in here. We’re throwing all that food away shortly. We want you to leave.” I said, “I apologize. Let’s start again.” I extended my hand and introduced myself: “My name is Mark Garner.” She stared at my hand but refused to shake it. “If you want to come and have a look around, book in another time. Would you leave now?” At that point, a man, who seemed like a senior staff member or manager, approached and asked, “What’s going on?” I explained the situation again, but he also insisted I had to leave. The three of them were in my personal space, and I hate to use the term, but it felt like bullying. It was such an odd and unpleasant experience. took a video outside, and thought about whether to publish it. Worried that sharing the video could cause serious problems. I don’t want anyone to get problems, still, the experience was horrible. Retraining required? Clayton Hotels Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport
