They wave the Puntland flag, proud of their home state, but not proud enough to live there. Tragically, they never reached Spain safely, where 20 of the 22 Puntlanders on board lost their lives. 🚨The Forgotten History of Majeerteen Slavery in Italian-Occupied Puntland: Under Italian colonial rule, the Majeerteen clan in Hafun, Puntland were enslaved to work in the Saline Dante salt fields. Nearly 2,000 native men almost the entire male population of Hafun were forced into brutal slavery, while 600 Italians oversaw the operations.

Maxamed Tooxow, a prominent journalist from the region, tragically lost his father during the conflict while he was mediating the situation.
