Our state is moving forward as a national leader on climate, despite a federal government that seems hellbent on rolling back every ounce of progress. I appreciate Mayor Wilson and the attendees at the launch of PNW Climate Week today. What's happening in DC isn't stopping us.

BREAKING: I support a Millionaires’ Tax on income over $1 million a year. The fairness of our tax system ranks 50th. Let’s make this historic change this session. This is a separate proposal from the budget I announced today — revenue would not be realized until 2029.

I recently spoke with a student who wasn't planning to go to college because he had no idea about the free money available. There are thousands like him. By requiring students to fill out the FAFSA or WASFA, or opt out, they'll have that conversation and learn what's possible.

I recently visited the remote town of Stehekin to see flood damage firsthand and hear from impacted residents at a community meeting. The only way to get to Stehekin is via boat, plane, or on foot. My son Jack and I decided to hike in on the Chelan Lakeshore Trail. Here are some highlights from our 18-mile backpacking trip. Some things you should know if you're interested in doing the hike: The trail starts at Prince Creek, which is only accessible by boat. You can take a ferry from Chelan or Field’s Point Landing. Despite the trail name, you’re not down by the lake the whole hike and there is a lot of climbing and descending. Be prepared for a net elevation gain of about 4,000 feet. Be prepared for heat — the trail gets a lot of sun exposure. Make sure you bring plenty of water, sunscreen and cool layers to help keep you from overheating. There are sections that are quite brushy. Enjoy your time out there and make sure you give yourself time to explore Stehekin before taking the ferry back to Chelan. The bakery is incredible.

I’ve said that any Millionaires' Tax I sign must send a significant percentage of that revenue back to Washingtonians. The Senate came out with a good start. Here's my proposal for cutting taxes on small businesses, getting money to working families, and reducing sales tax.

I find it deeply un-American that individuals in unmarked cars get out in masks and pluck people off the streets. When I reflect on the hundreds of bills this session, I am especially grateful that Sen. Valdez's bill to bar law enforcement from wearing masks reached my desk.

We can't talk about our state's budget without talking about the Big Betrayal Bill, which cut essential services like Medicaid in order to fund tax cuts for billionaires. That bill costs Washington at least $165 million directly in this budget. We worked to mitigate those harms.

In Chelan today to receive a briefing on the Chelan Hills fire. Chelan has seen a heartbreaking loss of a life and significant destruction of property. I deeply appreciate the hard work from first responders who are putting themselves in harm's way to protect residents.

I'm requesting legislation establishing that if you're not a law enforcement officer, you can't be wearing something that gives the impression you are. I also completely support the concept to ban face coverings for law enforcement officers, which Sen. Valdez has proposed.

Our health inspectors have been turned away 10 times at the Northwest ICE Processing Center. We're seeking a court order to get our inspectors into this facility. These are some of the over 3,500 complaints — including food with worms, refusal to give medication, and assault.
