Gwinnett County Police received a citizen complaint about a vehicle that was reportedly speeding through a neighborhood and running a stop sign at the same time every morning. Officers responded by setting up in the area, and sure enough, the vehicle came through right on schedule doing exactly what had been reported. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver stated that she did stop at the stop sign. However, as the video clearly shows, that was not the case. We would like to remind everyone that a stop sign requires drivers to come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection. Rolling through stop signs may seem minor, but it can quickly lead to serious crashes, especially in residential neighborhoods where children, pedestrians, and other vehicles may be nearby. Slow down, pay attention, and make full stops.

This video is nothing short of a miracle. We understand that no one enjoys being pulled over, but this is a perfect example of why officers do what we do. Seat belts and child safety seats are incredibly important, especially for our youngest passengers. Even if you follow every traffic law and do everything right behind the wheel, there's always a chance another driver won't. In this crash, a child was ejected from the vehicle and, amazingly, walked away with only a few minor scratches. As we've discussed in previous posts about Operation Summer Brake, Gwinnett County Police is focusing on traffic violations that contribute to serious injury and fatal crashes. This video serves as a reminder that traffic enforcement is not just about writing citations. It's about preventing tragedies and keeping our community safe. Please take a few extra seconds to make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained before every trip. In this case, those few seconds could have made all the difference.

On December 21, 2025, Officer N. Vides #2681 conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after it failed to stop at a stop sign. When Ofc. Vides activated her blue lights, the vehicle did not immediately stop and continued for a short distance before coming to a stop. Ofc. Vides made contact with the driver, Carolyn House. Due to the driver’s window not functioning, House opened the driver’s door to speak with Ofc. Vides. When the door opened, Ofc. Vides observed a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine in plain view inside the door. Ofc. Vides requested an additional officer to respond to the scene. Once another officer arrived, House was asked to step out of the vehicle. While Ofc. Vides was explaining the reason for asking her to exit, House attempted to grab the pipe from the door. House then began to physically resist officers and refused to place her hands behind her back. During the struggle, House went to the ground and pulled her arms underneath her body, a common resistance technique that makes it difficult for officers to safely gain control of a person. Controlling a person in this position significantly limits leverage and increases the risk of injury to both officers and the individual being detained. Ofc. Vides, who regularly attends Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training provided to officers at the Gwinnett County Police Department, utilized techniques taught during those classes to safely gain control of House and gain compliance without escalating the use of force. As a result of the traffic stop, Carolyn House was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, failure to obey a traffic control device, tampering with evidence, possession and use of drug-related objects, and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

On March 14, 2026, Gwinnett County Police officers were working a special detail following reports of a possible teen takeover. During the operation, officers observed a male wearing a ski mask walking from behind the building where the takeover was reported to be taking place. Due to the suspicious circumstances, aviation officers assisting with the operation were asked to maintain visual surveillance of the male. Aviation units followed the male to a nearby parking lot, where he was observed setting down a bookbag and walking away from it. The male then placed his electric bike into the trunk of a friend’s vehicle and left the area. Officers retrieved the abandoned bookbag and located a firearm inside. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and officers made contact with 33-year-old James Prayer, who was seated in the passenger seat. Prayer stated he did not understand how he could be charged in connection with the firearm since it was not on his person and believed officers did not have the authority to charge him. Prayer quickly learned that abandoning a firearm in a parking lot does not prevent you from being charged, especially when you are a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Gwinnett County Police were dispatched to what can only be described as a chaotic scene near Bonnett Creek Lane and Hog Mountain Road. Master Police Officer Hunt and Corporal Westbrook quickly responded and apprehended the suspect, who turned out to be none other than “Hank” the donkey, fresh off a midnight escape while his owner was catching some much needed sleep. Witnesses reported Hank trotting down Hog Mountain Road like he was auditioning for the next Fast & Furious movie, creating more of a scene than a toddler who found the hidden candy stash. Cpl. Westbrook assisted with transporting the “prisoner” safely back home, where Hank was released with a verbal warning.
