It’s not an accurate quote though; why insist that it is? Kirk’s actual quote is dickish, ignorant & can certainly be argued is racist. Attiah *changes it* into something undeniably racist. The distinction matters if you think journalists have a duty to deal in facts.

Australian music hasn’t been great for a while but had a golden age of rock from the late 70s to early 90s the rest of the world knows little about. Crowded House, AC/DC, Midnight Oil & INXS justifiably had some success abroad. But arguably the best & biggest band of the era were Cold Chisel, whose R&B-tinged pub rock captured Australian working class life similarly to how Springsteen chronicled American life. For whatever reason, they never broke the US market but locally they retain a strong hold over the hearts of those old enough to remember that era.
