Today, I received a deeply meaningful honour from His Royal Majesty, the Emir of Daura, HRM Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, CON, who bestowed upon me the traditional title of “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I.” This honour is profoundly personal to me. It speaks to my roots, my heritage and the rich Hausa culture that has shaped who I am and which I am immensely proud to call my own. I receive this title with a grateful heart, humility and a deep sense of responsibility. Beyond the honour it represents, I see it as a call to continue celebrating, preserving and promoting our heritage, while ensuring that its values, stories and traditions are passed proudly to generations yet to come. I am especially grateful to the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D. CON. , for honouring me with his presence; to our revered royal fathers and traditional institutions; and, above all, to the wonderful people of Katsina State for the extraordinary warmth, love and generosity they have shown me. As we bring the celebrations of Hausa Day to a close, I am reminded that our culture is more than our inheritance, it is a living legacy entrusted to us. I will carry the honour of Mairamar Kasar Hausa ta Farko with immense pride and a renewed commitment to the preservation and promotion of the heritage of Kasar Hausa. Ina alfahari da gadona. Arrived in Ogun State ahead of the Ojude Oba Festival with a series of engagements celebrating our heritage and creative identity. My first stop was a courtesy visit to pay homage to one of Nigeria’s greatest literary and cultural icons, Professor Wole Soyinka, whose lifelong contributions continue to shape global conversations around African storytelling and artistic excellence. I also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, the Alake of Egbaland, following the honour of my conferment with the royal title of GBASANIYI OF EGBALAND, The Cultural Ambassador of Egbaland, during the 2026 Lisabi Festival. It was important to personally pay homage to His Majesty, having missed the festival earlier in the year. Our traditional institutions remain powerful custodians of identity, history, and cultural preservation. I had the honour of co-chairing and speaking at the Global Citizen NOW Summit in New York, where I joined world leaders and industry stakeholders to spotlight Nigeria’s bold vision for its creative industry. In my remarks, I spoke about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes sustainable development through strategic partnerships and private sector collaboration. With growing support from investors and industry stakeholders, we’re working to position Nigeria’s creative economy to contribute 10% to our national GDP by 2030. It was also important for me to acknowledge how Nigerian creatives have grown this industry organically without heavy government intervention. Imagine what happens with the full implementation of the frame work and institutional structures we are currently implementing. As a case study, I shared our plans for Abuja Creative Citya transformative cultural and economic hub designed to empower creatives and attract global investment. Engagements like this are critical to showing the world that Nigeria is open for business, and that our creative, cultural, and tourism sectors are ready to lead.
