Karnataka expanded irrigation, increasing the dispute. 1970 (DMK Government under M. Karunanidhi) – Tamil Nadu formally requested the Central Government to establish a tribunal under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act. 1971–1974s – DMK consistently demanded legal adjudication instead of only political negotiations.Also moved to supreme court. 1975 - Emergency 1976-1988s - MGR rule 🤡🤡🤡 1990 (DMK - VP Singh rule)– Due to efforts of Kalaignar Central Government constituted the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT). 1991 – Tribunal's interim order directed Karnataka to release 205 TMC annually following DMK's efforts in VP Singh rule. The then Tamil Nadu government pursued its implementation. 1991-1996 - Jaya rule 🤡🤡🤡 1996–2001 (DMK Government) – Pressed the Centre to implement the interim award. 1998 (DMK supported NDA govt)– The Cauvery River Authority (CRA) and Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) were established. 2001-2005 - Jaya rule 🤡🤡🤡 2007 (DMK govt)– CWDT delivered its final award. DMK welcomed it but sought notification by the Centre. 2013( DMK supported) UPA govt – After Supreme Court intervention, the Central Government notified the Tribunal's final award. 2018 – Supreme Court issued its final judgment and ordered the creation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). DMK supported its implementation and demanded strict enforcement. 2019- 2025 - Smooth release of water 2026 (TVK govt) - 🤡🤡🤡
