“We’re biological computers. We all have a frequency. Like all computers, we can be hacked.” It’s a compelling line, but the literal version is oversold, and the smarter take is to keep the metaphor while tightening the science... In a broad sense, humans are biological information systems: our brains and bodies process signals, store memory, and respond dynamically to inputs. The “hacking” analogy becomes most accurate when we’re talking about social and psychological influence: misinformation, manipulation, coercion, addiction design, and propaganda. All can exploit normal cognitive biases and steer attention, emotion, and decision making. There’s also a limited biological angle: drugs, toxins, sleep deprivation, and chronic stress can measurably alter mood, perception, and judgment, and in rare scenarios some medical devices can be interfered with. This isn’t only an online philosophical debate, either. The U.S. Congress has formally examined foreign “anomalous health incidents” under the label of “silent weapons,” framed around concerns about targeting Americans in the homeland and abroad, with a House Homeland Security subcommittee hearing held on May 8, 2024. Whatever conclusions one draws, that official framing signals that perception, cognition, and neurological harm are now part of the public policy conversation. Where the popular phrasing starts to wobble is in the claim that “we all have a frequency.” It’s true that the brain exhibits measurable rhythms: alpha, beta, theta, the heart, and nervous system produce electrical patterns that can be studied and influenced within known biological limits. But, (!) that doesn’t mean each person broadcasts a single, unique, hackable “radio station” that someone can simply tune into. The second overreach is treating humans like computers with clean digital ports and protocols. People aren’t laptops with passwords you can crack from across the room; you can’t generally “remote access” a mind (Brain) but we can be influenced—psychologically, socially, biologically, and electromagnetically. When governments hold hearings on claims of neurological targeting using electromagnetic weapons... ...and National Security Lawyers are lining up with renowned military, investigative, and scientific professionals to represent victims... .... it’s a reminder to stay precise, not dismissive, and not credulous. The metaphor is still useful; it just works best when we respect the difference between poetic truth and literal mechanics.

How it affects people The National Academies report links high-power microwaves to impacts on people through the Frey effect. The human head acts as a receiving antenna for microwaves in the low gigahertz frequency range. Pulses of microwaves in these frequencies can cause people to hear sounds, which is one of the symptoms reported by the affected U.S. personnel. Other symptoms Havana syndrome sufferers have reported include headaches, nausea, hearing loss, lightheadedness and cognitive issues. The report notes that electronic devices were not disrupted during the attacks, suggesting that the power levels needed for the Frey effect are lower than would be required for an attack on electronics. This would be consistent with a high-power microwave weapon located at some distance from the targets. Power decreases dramatically with distance through the inverse square law, which means one of these devices could produce a power level at the target that would be too low to affect electronics but that could induce the Frey effect.
