Here you go world. You get what you deserve. Your beloved Syrian “President” and fellow jihadists are releasing ISIS prisoners. May they flood your cities as they did ours. May every single state complicit in the betrayal of the Kurds experience jihadists running wild and free in your cities. This world doesn’t deserve the Kurds. Good luck and don’t bother calling us again. We’re so done with you! #DefendRojava

We hold the world responsible for the atrocities committed by jihadist scum against our people! They are kidnapping our girls! They are looting our cities for our girls and women! And those who are fighting on the frontlines are outnumbered and betrayed and condemned for having the courage to fight and protect their honor and that of their fellow women. These jihadists are fighting to collect Kurdish women as their “gifts” as they did with our Yezidi girls in Shengal in 2014! Shame on this disgusting, pathetic, useless world that loves religious extremists more than peace or humanity.

Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom) is not a slogan that was born in western universities; it is a philosophy forged in Kurdish women’s struggle- in the mountains, in the prisons and the streets. It insists that no society is free if women are not free. It insists that democracy must be lived from the grounds up. It demands that national liberation should not overshadow or dismiss women’s liberation. That women are the foundation of life, and only with them can there be genuine freedom, democracy, justice and peace.

Right now, every single Kurd is Deniz Undav. Because there isn’t a single Kurd living across Iran, Iraq, Turkey, or Syria who hasn’t experienced the intense, open, and violent racism that world famous Kurdish-German striker Deniz Undav faced on the field yesterday. To be a Kurd is to be the other: the ostracised, the silenced, the erased. They only want a Kurd who is cowed. A Kurd who never fights back. A Kurd who accepts silence. Or worse, a Kurd who becomes the “house slave,” proudly serving the very regimes that occupy and destroy our lands. But Deniz’s courage and unwavering commitment to repeating that he is Kurdish, and that he does not “speak Turkish”, is a reminder to us all that the courage of refusing to betray our Kurdishness is the very foundation of why we have remained a nation and a people. A people who have endured decades of erasure at the hands of four united regimes that have lacked even the most basic elements of morality or conscience in their treatment of us. Today, Deniz is our Kurdistan; a beloved son to more than 50 million Kurds whose dream of freedom from the tyranny of our oppressors refuses to die in their hearts.

We are not safe anywhere. Fascist Turks will attacks Kurds with impunity and get away with it. After all for over a century their government has been slaughtering Kurds to total global silence. The west has continued to protect Turkish fascism against the Kurds too.

It’s a mistake to see the YPJ as solely a response to end ISIS terrorism or an integral aspect of Kurdish national liberation. The YPJ are a permanent military force that will only dissolve itself when capitalist, statist and patriarchal oppression ends. They are ideologically committed to protecting women and themselves so long as these hierarchies of oppression and violence against women exist. They are a permanent women’s self protection units here to stay. Even if the HTS/Jolani government manoeuvres the disarming of the SDF somehow, the YPJ is ideologically committed to permanent self protection even against the men/forces in their own communities. They cannot be dissolved! The YPJ is one of the most radical and groundbreaking aspects of Rojava’s Revolution.

The Rojava Revolution has endured because we have something no one else in the world has: our women lead the fight, lead the struggle, lead the path towards hope and humanity. It is they who led the fight against ISIS and it is still they who continue to lead the fight against Turkish backed jihadists of SNA and anyone else who threatens the integrity of their values, the sacred blood of their martyrs and their freedom!
