In fact, this is what the former president has to say about Armenia joining the EAEU: "There was no coercion whatsoever, not even a millimeter of pressure from Russia. Moreover, for two years I personally asked and proposed to Russia that they accept us into the EAEU. Because it was obvious that if we did not become a member of the EAEU, we would face numerous internal problems in the country. 300,000 farm businesses in Armenia are engaged in agriculture. This is our largest sector. With the EU, we had GSP+, which provided trade preferences, but those never applied to Armenian cognac, fruits, and so on. Besides that, there was also the issue of fuel imports. It is one thing to get gas at 135 dollars and another at 250 dollars."
