The scariest thing this Halloween is real. 40 million low-income Americans — 1 in 8 of us — are about to get less, or no help at all, affording food. Even if lawmakers clinch a funding deal before the end of October, advocates warn there’ll still be a delay. Because when the government shuts down, it takes time for states to restart the process of issuing November’s benefits. This program serves mothers and infants. The sick. The elderly. Veterans. The most vulnerable among us. I’s truly scary how little we’re talking about this on social platforms where the algorithm controls what we see. There's a big NEW "Beautiful Bill!" Let's break it down: - $4.5 TRILLION in tax cuts (mostly to the wealthy) - Cutting $2 TRILLION from safety net programs - Goal: pass before July 4th, Independence Day Here's where it Gets Real: - Rural hospitals are in the danger zone! They're offering $25 billion for rural healthcare... which sounds like a lot until you realize it's spread over 10 years when we're spending $7 trillion this year alone in the federal budget. - SNAP benefits (the program helping 40 million Americans put food on the table) proposed to be cut that by $200 BILLION.
