Deborah: A Proof of Persecution in Nigeria Deborah was stoned and burnt to death in Sokoto by her fellow students after being accused of blasphemy. Some say it was not an act of Christian persecution, yet she was publicly executed for expressing her faith. Her killers filmed themselves, laughing as they took her life, and their faces were seen across the country. Even if we pretend it was not about religion, just students unlawfully enforcing Sharia, what excuse does the State have? The Sokoto State Government and the Attorney General’s Office saw the evidence, yet no one was arrested, tried, or convicted. That silence is not justice, it is complicity. Deborah’s death is a mirror reflecting a darker truth, that in Northern Nigeria, persecution of Christians has become systemic, political, and quietly accepted.
