Javier Aguirre says he’s not a spokesperson for Mexican immigrants in the U.S. But for decades, the Mexican national team has profited from the nostalgia of over 70 million Mexicans in the United States especially in cities like Los Angeles, the second largest Mexican city in the world. To now claim detachment. To say “that’s not my place” in a moment when our people live in fear? That’s Vergonzoso. It’s embarrassing. It’s apathetic. It’s entirely out of touch. You don’t get to take the love, loyalty, and dollars from Mexican communities in the U.S. for decades and then turn your back when they need your voice the most. Especially now, when millions are being affected without due process. When people don’t even get the chance to “do it the right way” legally, because their rights are being stripped from them. In this crucial moment, you cannot turn your back on the people who’ve had your back for decades. These are the same people that fill stadiums from Pasadena to New York. The reason Mexico always plays on U.S. soil. They love to cash in on Mexican Pride. But when the ‘incondicionales’ need you, where are you, Javier? Where is the Mexican national team?
