Helen Zille and the Institute of Race Relations must take full responsibility for the collapse of the stable coalition government I was running because they accused me for concentrating too much efforts in areas where people don’t pay taxes and don’t vote for the DA. When I resigned upon the return of Helen in the leadership of the DA, because I didn’t want to be associated with South Africans like her, Council had already approved and awarded 154 buildings to the private sector on long leases. These properties were going to yield: 1. R32 billion construction investments into the city 2. Create 22 thousand permanent jobs during the construction phase 3. Create a historic 14 thousand housing units One of Helen’s problems was must demand that 30% of the units to be affordable accommodation for our poor residents and students. When Geoff Makhubo took over, with support from some DA councillors mobilised by Helen, dropped the Inner City Rejuvenation Plan.

The City pays contractors up to R16 000 per security guard while workers survive on under R5000 with no Benefits. In my tenure, I ended the exploitation by insourcing 1,879 cleaners & 4,185 security guards. Given the mandate again, I will insource more workers. #MashabaForMayor

During my term as Mayor of Johannesburg, Helen Zille and the Democratic Alliance wanted me to service suburban areas and cut grass in Sandton, neglecting our poor and forgotten communities, calling me an EFF mayor. Including having secret meetings with the ANC to remove me. Today she is claiming that the DA is concerned about Black communities. The lies never end.

Two weeks ago in Taung, I met Kgosi Bogosiboile Modisakamo using a manual wheelchair. I promised to get him an electric one; and today, that promise is fulfilled. While I couldn’t deliver it personally due to commitments, I’m proud that Kgosi can now move with dignity and ease. Taung showed me that the people of North West are ready for real change.
