IEBC Must Gazette All Polling Stations six months before elections

In May 2022, while I was in Mombasa, William Ruto called me and asked me to come meet him in Karen when I returned. When I got there, he wasn’t around. I waited for some time and eventually sent him a message saying I was leaving. He called me back and told me he was meeting “some three gentlemen.” I asked, “Which ones?” He told me himself: Wafula Chebukati, Abdi Guliye, and Boya Molu. This was just two days before he named Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate. They were meeting at the main house in Karen, not at the IEBC offices. The meeting was not official, and even the people who were coming there didn’t know it was happening. I don’t know what was discussed, but what I do know is that from that meeting, William Ruto was very confident he would win the 2022 elections.

I landed in Dubai and received a phone call from President Ruto, who told me that Russian oligarchs were waiting at the airport and I needed to sign documents (on a Ksh.129B deal). I declined, insisting that I needed to review the documents in the office

THE LAW IS NOT OPTIONAL — NOT TODAY, NOT EVER We have just left Siakago Polling Station, where voters are turning out with courage and clarity. I am here to ensure they are protected, respected, and allowed to exercise their democratic right without interference, intimidation or unlawful conduct. It is disappointing and telling that those who should be defending the law are the same ones breaking it. An MCA from Nyeri, Karuga, travelled all the way to Siakago dressed in full UDA party colours, right inside a polling centre. This is illegal. Election Day is not a campaign stage, and polling stations are not theatres for party branding. I made it very clear, not here, not today. He was removed from the station as required. The law stands. The law must be obeyed. We are also aware of hired goons around the station. Let it be known, we are not intimidated. The vote belongs to the people of Mbeere North, not outsiders, not party agents, and not those who think power places them above the law. I will continue standing with my people, protecting their vote and defending the integrity of this process. No uniform, no colour, no noise will overturn the will of the voter. Mbeere has spoken before. Mbeere will speak again. And today the ballot will speak the loudest.

Last night at around 7:30PM, my security detail was withdrawn. The two officers who had been assigned to me owing to my previous position as Speaker of the National Assembly were instructed not to report on duty today. If this is yet another attempt to cow me into silence, they’ve dialed yet another wrong number.

During a Cabinet retreat at Lake Naivasha Resort, CS Alice Wahome came and told me the President wanted to see me. I asked her if all was well, and she said yes. I walked in and found President Ruto, then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prof Ndung’u, CS Murkomen, PS Chris Kiptoo, and PS Nikson Korir seated around a bonfire. The President asked if I remembered our campaign pledge to settle the landless. I said yes. He then told me that Wahome and Korir were complaining that I had become a stumbling block. He went on to say that they had already acquired 11,000 acres: 5,000 of which he wanted allocated to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot, while the remaining 6,000 would be used to settle the landless. I told the President that I found it very strange because I had already issued a legal advisory to the Ministry of Lands raising 19 issues that had been mishandled. One of those issues was that the PS is not the CEO of the Settlement Fund Trustee, yet the documents they brought to me had been signed by the PS.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, together with Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, admitted that medicines worth KSh 90 billion have expired, completely wasted. And without a hint of conscience, they now say they need KSh 600 million more, taxpayers’ money, just to burn the expired drugs! Think about it: Drugs worth 90 billion, bought with public funds, rotting away while Kenyans die in hospitals for lack of medicine. And no one has been held accountable? No shame? This is beyond irony, it’s criminal negligence. We must get serious as a country.

Mr. President, I'm calling upon you to take decisive action to end these abductions and extrajudicial killings, as you promised. We must also investigate how and why this is happening. We cannot allow this to become the norm, young lives are being taken, and it must stop.

HOW DID LAND MEANT FOR MURANG’A AND KIMBU RESIDENTS END UP IN THE HANDS OF FOREIGN INVESTORS? The land surrendered by Del Monte in Murang’a County, measuring over 7,000 acres, was meant to bring justice to the local community. When I served as Speaker of the National Assembly, Parliament made a clear resolution that this land be allocated to nearly 4,000 local beneficiaries who had waited for years for rightful settlement. That decision represented hope for many families who believed that, at last, fairness would prevail. It is therefore deeply disturbing that a portion of this land has now been allocated to investors from Bangladesh under the watch of President William Ruto, while many of the intended beneficiaries remain without land. This is unacceptable. The people of Murang’a cannot be sidelined while their land is handed to outsiders. The United Alternative Government will ensure that the will of Parliament and the rights of the local community are respected, and that land meant for the people is returned and allocated transparently and lawfully.

IS PARLIAMENT CORRUPT? During my Cabinet vetting, Members of Parliament shamelessly demanded a bribe. I told them straight: if I am not qualified, reject me. But I will never buy approval from leaders already pocketing hefty salaries and sitting allowances from the taxpayer. What shocked me most was a lady MP who personally texted me, urging me to bribe because “others had done it.” Imagine that, an elected leader openly campaigning for corruption instead of upholding integrity. I refused. I said No. If MPs reduce themselves to brokers of public office, then Parliament ceases to serve the people. How can the fight against corruption be taken seriously when those entrusted to vet leaders are busy auctioning the process? Kenya deserves better. Leadership cannot and must never be for sale.

I was fortunate when my son was abducted, I was able to reach the President, and within an hour, my son was safely back home. But I can't help but ask: what about Albert’s parents, and countless other ordinary Kenyans who don’t have that kind of access? For them, the outcome is often tragic, death. It’s heartbreaking and deeply unjust.

During my press conference on January 12th, I strongly warned that if the issue of abductions is not addressed urgently, it could plunge our country into chaos and anarchy. I called for a national dialogue, urging the nation to set aside all other matters and focus on addressing the grave concerns of murder and extra-judicial killings. This is not just a legal issue, it is a national crisis that demands immediate and collective action.

My advice to President William Ruto: Mr. President, please do the honorable thing and resign. You have demonstrated that you are unfit to hold the highest office in the land. You have become an incorrigible liar. Kenyans know it, and it is deeply hurting for citizens to see their President telling lies in broad daylight.

Simuogopi Rais William Ruto.
