The last major Somali scholar to use the nisba Zayla'i was Abd al-Rahman al-Zayla'i (d. 1882) born in the hinterland of Muqdisho. He travelled to the Hijaz to study the religion and came back to become one of the most influential Qadiri scholars in 19th century Somalia. His works are still used by Qadiris in southern Somalia today, I've added a contemporary recitation of his tawasul from Sultan Harmacad Al-Ceelbuuri 🕋🇸🇴🐪, Abd al-Qadir al-Jalani is mentionned in it, he was a very popular and important figure for Somali Qadiris in the 19th century as he is also mentioned in many northern Somali Qadiri manuscripts. But he's not really the last to go by Zayla'i, a prominent *Arsenal* Emir used to go by al-Zayla'i, not sure if he's still alive but he was well known for all the wrong reasons. As for the nisba Jabarti, it hasn't been used since the 19th century after the fall of Harar. This alligns with what I've previously said about Jabarti referring to the country of Jabart and Zayla'i referring to the Somali race as a whole.
