More than 300 people rallied Thursday evening at Texas A&M University in College Station, saying a new ban on teaching about race and gender is censoring classroom instruction and threatening academic freedom. A&M sophomore Madeline Kiser held a poster that read, "Don't cheapen our degrees." "It's embarrassing if I graduate from a university that isn't allowed to teach adults — who wanted to be here," said Kiser, an English major. Ronaldo Salgado spoke about his father, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, during a community vigil Saturday morning, reflecting on his love for soccer and the Mexico National Team, the pride his father took in his work building homes, and the private life his father enjoyed. On Tuesday, 52-year-old Salgado was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Houston's Magnolia park. Community members in Houston rallied together after the shooting to demand a local, independent investigation into Salgado's death and raised more than $400,000 to support his family members.

Multiple people were shot inside a Kroger Wednesday afternoon in the Cypress area, according to authorities. In a press conference, Cpt. Juan Flores said when deputies arrived at the scene, they found one man walking out of the store with a gunshot wound, and another person with multiple injuries inside. Magnolia Park resident Juliet Martinez had just dropped her son off at a nearby summer school yesterday morning when she drove past the scene of the fatal Canal Street shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Around 10 minutes later, Martinez said, medical personnel arrived, and the street was blocked off to bystanders.
