Tonight is one of the hardest nights we’ve faced. As the night shelter manager, I’ve just had to stand at our door and turn away 35 people 35 human beings back out into the cold because we are full. My team are devastated. We are volunteers doing everything we can, but we have reached our limit. No one should be left standing outside with nowhere to go. We urgently need Glasgow City Council City Council to step in and support us. This cannot continue. To those we couldn’t help tonight we are so sorry. You deserve better.

Tonight in Glasgow. This is the reality. A family walked the streets with a 1-year-old and a 3 year-old tired, soaked, and freezing after no accommodation was provided during the day. At 10:30pm, they came to our night shelter. Two young children, exhausted and cold, needing safety. We then waited over 40 minutes for Glasgow City Council City Council out-of-hours to respond. 40 minutes… while a family with babies stood in distress. This is not acceptable. This is not a system working. When the council and Scottish Government fail, the burden doesn’t disappear it falls onto the streets, onto volunteers, and onto charities like ours. No child should be left walking the streets at night. Ever. Scotland deserves better. We are disappointed with @KeithBrownSNP as he misrepresents Homeless Project Scotland 💜🏴 yesterday in parliament challenging Douglas Ross for raising the very serious matter about Glasgow City Council refusing our fridge can along with our other x3 vehicles into the LEZ zone after us being requested by a SNP councillor to submit a second application just for the fridge van it was accepted ONLY for 2 months 3hrs before it came into force we have been forced to buy a new fridge van and fundraise for a further 3 vehicles due to Glasgow City Council LEZ and for the last week we have not been able to bring our emergency street outreach vehicles into the city. We would appreciate if @KeithBrownSNP would support us instead of misrepresenting us. Douglas Ross was right on this occasion and we are still suffering today as a result of LEZ. Humza Yousaf it would be better if your Scottish Government and The SNP supported us rather than hindering us 👍

The passing of Alex Salmond marked the loss of a significant political figure in Scotland. 🏴 Whatever people’s political views, one message he made clear was this: night shelters have a role to play until they are no longer needed. Right now, they are needed. Every night, we see the reality people with nowhere else to go, turning to services like ours for safety, warmth, and support. 🚨 EMERGENCY UPDATE 🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE Due to a fire incident at the House of Gods our soup kitchen was evacuated as a precaution. 👉 Everyone is safe. 👉 Emergency services attended. For safety reasons, the soup kitchen is now CLOSED until further notice while the situation is assessed. 🚨 Night Shelter Update From Gary 🚨 Tonight, once again, our night shelter is at full capacity. Gary and the team have had to make the heartbreaking decision to turn people away into the streets people who are cold, vulnerable, and simply looking for safety. This is the reality in Glasgow. A city where the council is SNP controlled. A country led by an SNP Government. Yet frontline services like ours fully volunteer-led, no government or council funding are left to carry the pressure. We are doing everything we can. But we should not be doing this alone. Accountability is needed. Action is needed. Tonight could be our “Last Supper.” As Glasgow City Council Glasgow City Council prepares to decide whether our night shelter will stay open or be shut down, our volunteers and guests gather as we always do around food, compassion, and hope. For some, this might be the last warm meal they have inside a safe place. The last night they are treated with dignity. The last moment they feel seen. No one should have to face that. We pray the council chooses people over policy humanity over bureaucracy. Whatever happens today, we stand together.
