HS2's longest tunnel is now complete – a significant milestone for Britain's new high-speed railway. ✔️ Final works at the tunnel's vent shafts at Chesham Road and Little Missenden bring to an end almost five years of construction beneath the Chilterns. A landmark moment at Birmingham Curzon Street. 🏗️ Engineers have completed all 2,011 concrete piles that will form the foundations of the new station — each one sunk up to 24 metres into the ground. The team also excavated 47,000 cubic metres of material to create a level base for the station. With the piling now complete, attention turns to preparing the way for the Digbeth extension to the West Midlands Metro and the completion of the remaining foundation works. HS2 engineers are ready to start installing the roof beams on a new box structure that will span both carriageways of the M42 near Solihull. 🏗️ This summer, 175 roof beams weighing up to 92 tonnes will be lifted into place, resting on 10-metre-high supporting walls. To install the first beams, the M42 will be closed from 9pm Friday 26 June to 5am Monday 29 June J5A to J7 (northbound) and J6 to J7 (southbound). For more information visit

The Curzon 2 viaduct has successfully been launched over the Birmingham Cross City line. This huge engineering feat was achieved during a weekend railway closure. Reaching 40 metres at its highest point, this viaduct is a landmark addition to the #Birmingham skyline. By working within a pre-agreed closure window with Birmingham New Street, our teams were able to push the viaduct over the existing rail lines safely, handing the tracks back on time for the first trains on Monday morning. Our latest YouTube video takes you through the weekend push, where the massive steel truss was slid into place using a precision jacking system. Watch it here:

#HS2 engineers have completed Curzon 2, the tallest bridge on the new high-speed network, and shortly we’ll be launching it over the Cross City railway line just outside #Birmingham city centre. Curzon 2 is part of the Curzon approaches, a network of five viaducts forming the final mile into HS2's Curzon Street Station. A 1.5-mile section of the Grand Union Canal, owned by the charity, Canal & River Trust, has reopened to the public – seven days ahead of schedule - after HS2 engineers successfully launched a 130-metre-long Longhole viaduct into position over the canal 🎥👇. The viaduct is situated just one kilometre from the north portal of the Long Itchington Wood Tunnel. When trains emerge from the tunnel, they will travel along the Ufton Wood cutting before joining the Welsh Road embankment, which connects to Longhole viaduct. Find out more:

The construction schedule, which starts in June, will see three huge HS2 structures built over busy sections of the M42 and #M6 in the #WestMidlands. In one operation, a twin box will be built above both carriageways of the #M42 near #Birmingham Business Park – allowing the railway to be constructed over the top. Additionally, two single-track viaducts will be extended over the M42/M6 Toll near Water Orton, and a twin-track viaduct will be installed over the M6 near Chelmsley Wood. Named after one of the UK's first female train drivers, this is the final tunnel bore on the 140-mile railway between central London and the West Midlands🚄. To mark the milestone, two female train drivers from Avanti West Coast were invited onto the machine to drive it alongside the engineers working on the project. Find out more:

These viaducts are at the northern end of the Delta Junction and will allow southbound trains to join the spur into Birmingham Curzon Street and the rolling stock depot at Washwood Heath.

Our engineers have begun installing a dedicated cycle bridge that will connect the Offchurch Greenway in Warwickshire to Route 41 of the national cycle network. The new bridge will keep cyclists and walkers away from passing traffic, making it an important local asset, as well as forming part of a national cycle route through the English countryside maintained by the charity Walk Wheel Cycle Trust.
