🎉 BREAKING NEWS: After years of HSI campaigning, South Korea just passed a ban on the dog meat industry, marking a monumental victory for animals! This history in the making will spare millions of dogs suffering and we are so proud to have played our part in making it happen! 🐕❤️ South Korea’s National Assembly just voted through the ban with not a single vote against and only two abstentions. The legislation comes into force in six months and makes it illegal to farm, slaughter and sell dogs or dog meat for human consumption from 2027 onwards. The establishment of new dog meat related businesses is illegal immediately. We’re urging the government to use the three-year phase out period to work with animal groups including HSI/Korea to save as many farmed dogs as possible. Since 2015, HSI has permanently closed 18 dog meat farms in South Korea, rescuing over 2,700 dogs and helping the farmers switch to other, animal-friendly livelihoods such as growing crops like chilli plants and parsley. We’ve worked tirelessly alongside our partners to make this ban happen and are thrilled that this historic day is finally here! Thank you to all of our supporters who’ve stood by our side! 🐾🐾🐾
